I'm currently looking at doing a deal with a car dealer and have supplied him with lots of info on the cars I will be trading in against one of his cars. So that I can make some checks on the car I hope to buy, I asked him to fax me a copy of the V5. He has replied saying that he cannot fax it because the Data Protection Act prevents this. Is this correct?

Comments would be appreciated.

Regards.

Chris.

I'm not sure whether it's the data protection act but I wouldn't send copies of a V5 to someone that's for sure

Slight thread hijack but this has just reminded me, how quickly can I get a V5 from the dvla? I bought a car in feb of this year but have never received it. Yes I know I should of sorted it by now but there was always something else to deal with first!

Tax is up at the of the week and I haven't yet had any reminders so I assume the dvla dont know Im the new owner. If I phone them tomorrow will they be able sort it so I'll be able to tax before it expires, I just need the code so I can do it online.

Sorry OP for the hijack, good luck with getting the v5 from the dealer.
