Strolling past Millets the other day with the Mrs, and we noticed that they had a tent sale on. We popped in and ended up bagging a rather spacious 5 man tent that was reduced from £299 to £64.99 biggrin

Anyway, we thought it would be nice to take the TVR away for a few days with the tent in the boot, but we need somewhere to stay.

Any suggestions for a nice camp site? I don't want bars, discos, club houses or swimming pools, just a nice picturesque setting, with some decent toilet/ washing facilities - nothing more. Is there a good website that anyone would recommend I use to search for sites that are on the quieter side, rather than offering Butlins style facilities?

I'll probably be looking towards the Cotswold's or perhaps into Somerset?

TYIA.

Looks good, thanks.

Any personal recommendations? I always like to have a PHers view on a place!

We stayed here recently.
Nice walks, nice lake for watersports and swimming, and 50 yards up the road is Standlake Banger track for sunday entertainment.

That and Le Mans are the only times during the year that sleeping in a field in a tent is remotely acceptable, irrespective of the savings made during the initial purchase.

What a curious juxtaposition your life is. biggrin

I'm not sure which part of the country you are in but the campsite in Glenmore Forrest park is excellent, good amenities and on the bank of Loch Morlich http://www.scottishcampingguide.com/link.php?n=226... You can even go feed the reindeer smile

hey, that place is good, probably not what Garlick is after, but for families it's great.

They really should change that name now though.

I can't remember the name at the moment, but I'll have a look when I get home later on.

If you fancied venturing a bit further than Somerset, and were prepared to travel to South Wales, I can highly recommend Mill House Caravan Park near to Tenby.

http://www.millhousecaravan.co.uk/

We've just come back from a week there (have been going there for a couple of years now) - pretty much ticks all of your boxes, and for camping, it has the added benefit of being relatively cheap (£125 for seven nights peak season)

Downside is that there are only four tent pitches on site, so advance booking is essential - certainly during peak or mid season.

This one is great Paul. I think it was only £6 a night. They allow campfires (£5 for a bag of wood), serve cream teas at 3pm, and have a great view. We went a few weeks ago and had a brilliant time.

ETA this photo my brother (Pernod) took at the above site thumbup

I'd also highly recommend WoWo in Sussex as possibly the best campsite in Britain, although getting a booking might be hard at short notice.

Long way to go, but just got back from Fidden campsite on the Isle of Mull and had the most amazing time.

Long trip, but worth it!
