Lets say a 4 month contract working in Abu Dhabi....woudl this be tax free, or would the individual need to be working out there for 12 months to gain tax free status?

Cheers

Mods - please delete the thread in jobs section, as I think the quicker answer would come here?

I think it's a full 12 months, although could be wrong...not sure if that's helpful!

12 months - and now from the beginning of the tax year.
UAE is a very expensive place to live, even if its tax free unless you have accommodation, electrics etc. your take home will not be dis-similar to UK (assuming same rate of pay).

You may be liable to UK tax on your Dubai earnings too - so be careful - especially on very short term contracts.

This might do better on one of the financial forums, by the way.

Forgot to say Abu Dhabi is not Dubai! If you are working for a raghead out there don't suggest they are one and the same.
Although that is unlikely as they tend to just watch everyone else work

You need to do a full 12 months out of the country (before the start until after the end of the tax year) - but can visit during that year.

Rules on domicile changed recently, and AFAIK we still await some clearer guidance (& test cases) on what the new rules are.

I know AUH well.

Also, you'd be liable to pay full N.I. contribs for the first 52 weeks, after which you can switch to Class 2/3 (whichever is lower).
