I've been on a number of track days in front-wheel drive hot hatch type cars (190-250bhp), with about 7hrs instruction in total. I feel I have become reasonably competent at flinging them smoothly (I won't claim to be fast!) around the track, i.e. braking points, lines, using trail braking to keep the weight forward on corner entry etc.

I've bought a 350Z 6 months ago and have got nowhere near its limits on the road. First track day looms on Thursday!

Of course I'm going to be taking it easy.... but what can I expect the differences in technique required?

You'll probably need to be smoother and might well find trail-braking is not your friend.

Gearchanging and braking in a straight a line as possible.

Consider starting out with the nanny electronics engaged. Your TC/ESP lights should flicker in the corners but if they come on steady you'd have blown it.

RWD feels very rewarding but you can kick the back end out if you get too carefree with the gas. If you are squeezing the throttle and applying it smoothly you'll have a much better chance of feeling the limit than if you simply floor it out of every corner: yes it should get to the floor, just not all in one go!

Have a good time.
