How much are you spending? I.E. what age of X5 are you looking for, roughly?

Just bought one myself on Friday. Paid £12.5k for an '04 3.0i Sport Auto with 62k on the clock.

Very pleased so far, but will keep an eye on this thread for tips and advice.

Go for it OP!

05,55,06 reg. Am going to be towing with it and I understand that from 04/05 onwards they increased the size of the gearbox oil cooler etc to compensate for gearbox issues etc so that towing is easier. Have also been recommended to get the panoramic sunroof, comms pack/Bluetooth and, unless it already has one fitted, to consider getting an aftermarket towing pack fitted that cancels the PDC and "turns down" the ESP etc when a trailer is connected.

If you are buying an 05/55/06 I'm fairly sure most X5's will be well specced due to being run out models. There are a lot of nice Le Mans Editions for sale at that age, and most of them seem to have all the toys.

Been looking for one myself also(got my 530d up for sale just now), but hoping not to spend any more than about 13k.

Should be able to find a facelift model with circa 80k for that i reckon, but may decide to go for the older model if it has good mileage and plenty toys, unless there are many benefits on going for facelift? I never knew about the oil cooler upgrade....are there any other bits i should know of?

Is it true that gearboxes last on 60,000 miles or there about. Is that why there are so many about at between 50,000 to 60,000 miles?
