I have a choice of cash allowance at 450pcm or ECO car scheme. Base car is a Mondeo Edge 1.8 diesel. List price is £18295. Cars suggested must not cost more than this. Otherwise i have to pay the difference.

will do around 15k business and private miles.

Have so far looked at.

  • Golf 1.4 TSI loaded with lots of toys. Should I be looking at a diesel with the mileage im doing?
  • Leon ecomotive SE. Had everything required silly economy. Not as refined and nice a place to be as the golf. Steering was not the best. But much cheaper all round.
  • Ceed 2. Comes out more expensive than the Seat with required goodies. Cruise control etc. However was a nicer drive but less toys.
Has to be new. As economical as possible. It can be boring boring boring. less than £18300 OTR. nice place to be for long distances. Must have cruise control.

So any other suggestions to look at?

so yeah a very boring what car but im stumped. Never had to have a new bland box before.

The BIK rate is the important figure for a company car - which sets the tax bill you pay. This is based on C02...

Shame you cant quite make it into a 1 series, they piss over most stuff for co. car tax purposes - 116d/118d are only 13% BIK

Model OTR Price Fuel BIK (%) CO2 (g/km) Combined fuel consumption (mpg) Power Output (hp) 0-62mph (secs)
1 Series ES

116i ES £17,610 Petrol 17% (19%) 143 (154) 46.3 (42.8) 122 9.8 (10.7)
116d ES £18,790 Diesel 13% 118 64.2 116 10.2
118d ES £19,940 Diesel 13% (20%) 119 (144) 62.8 (53.3) 143 8.9 (9.0)

Unless it has to be brand new look at something that is 2-3 years old.

Having driven both, it's hard to believe that a fully loaded Golf 1.4Tsi costs the same as a diesel Mondeo rofl

I'd definitely look at the Golf, and also perhaps a Honda Civic and possibly the 1 series if, like me, you're into rear wheel drive.

Skoda Superb 2.0TDI 140ps in minicab spec comes in at £18,205. Hell of a lot of car for the money.

It's based on CO2, fuel type and list price.

This is your choice. You're mad considering a diesel for the miles you're doing, especially considering the brilliant engine that is 1.4TSI.

You'd get a good spec Octavia diesel for that sort of money.

Correct, but the percentage is directly taken from C02 and then based on list price (and the tax bracket you are in)

..and then bumped up by 3% if the car is a diesel.
