Beach near Brighton

Going to Brighton tomorrow. Come Thursday I'll be wanting to slob out on a beach with SWMBO. Where is the nearest sandy beach to Brighton that you guys could recommend?

After sand, not pebbles.

Just looked it up and it says shingle, not sand.

Obviously it needs to be low tide. If tide is in it is shingle but low tide there is a lot of sand, honest.

You need to be quite a way west of Brighton to get any seriously sandy beaches.

Starting at Bognor /Littlehampton, or as another poster suggested, West Wittering are likely candidates - Wittering being a lot quieter in weekdays. If you go swimming, watch the tidal flow at the Witterings. The effect it had on my boat was quite significant as it flowed out, so I am sure it will have no problem taking swimmers some considerable distance too.

Personally, from where I live, I mainly head west to Dorset rather than East to West Sussex for beaches.

West Wittering is my local beach and it is sand, however Climping Beach is a lot nearer to Brighton and has sand and dunes.
