When you buying something do you have a particular brand that you *have* to buy or are you quite happy with the first thing that comes to hand that suit's your budget?

I've noticed recently, especially with clothing that I could go out head to toe in Paul Smith or Barbour, I havn't made a conscious effort to buy nothing but those brands, I simply like their design and quality.

I was told of a story by my GF that a guy she used to see that his family would buy nothing but Next, this included clothing, homeware and anything in-between. This IMO it when it becomes a step to far.

I often buy Superdry, monkee genes/cheap monday, fred perry and lyle and scott..

very rarely i will stray from those brands simply because they work for me..

I have met people in the past who purely buy everything from NEXT.. its odd!!

Nope, I buy purely on merit, whether it's cars, tools, fridges, TVs etc. If it's something I know about (cars or guitars), I test them myself as well as reading reviews, and if it's something I don't know about (everything else!), I just read up all the reviews and guides and pick what I think is the best. Having said that, there are some brands, especially of clothes, that I wouldn't want to own because the chav association is just so strong, but if the brand was limited to a label inside the clothes I'd probably buy them if everything else checked out.

I'm quite bad at this, I'll pay more money just to fly with Virgin Atlantic over any other other long-haul airline, even though I've never flown with anyone else! I just like the brand and have always enjoyed flying with them.

I will also only ever go to Starbucks. I'll only step foot in a Costa if I'm with others and don't have a choice, but I just love being in a Starbucks store, and I prefer their drinks so am therefore massively loyal to them.

God this is going to make us all look shallow.

I buy a lot of Boss as it just always seems to fit and look right. Most of my suits are Boss.
I buy a lot of shirts for work from Thomas Pink.
I buy a lot of clothes from Ikon in Guildford generally.

then there are certain brands I don't buy a lot of but don't question the quality of:

Mont Blanc
Tag Heuer & Omega
etc

With very, very few exceptions I never shop for clothing based upon brand and when I do I invariably try to buy the item that doesn't have tags or badges on display, I've sometimes cut them off.

I won't wear anything spattered with brand names, logos and the like. I've never understood the desire to pay a company to advertise their goods. "Look at me! Look at me! I have an Abercrombie & Fitch sweatshirt!". Yup, you and thousands of others rolleyes

For tools and electrical and household goods I'll research the major manufacturers but only because data on their items are usually easier to find and if a lesser known company produces something as good or better then that's where my money goes.

Edit:
Suits. What's with leaving the manufacturer's label on the sleeve? Common among certain 'types' only I'll grant you but how shallow is that?

From a girls point of view, some clothes shops cut in a way that fits and suits me, some don't. So a lot of my decent clothes tend to come from Warehouse, since I know they fit well. By the same token, there are some shops I'd never go into, for the same reasons.

I've got a thing for Billionaire Boys Club tshirts, at 80 to 85 quid a pop they're a bit pricey.

Always Replay Jeans, they are the only jeans I have ever put on that have fit perfectly and they look great.

For me I prefer to buy a brand that deals specifically with one product. Boss as a brand is extremely diluted. I do have a few nice Boss shirts though.

done on merit, but there are brands I know will meet the specification most of the time.

There are brands I avoid purely because of their reputation e.g.:

addidas - chav
vauxhall - they all break (In my experience)
timberland - chav
etc etc etc

I do base many of my purchases on reputation, especially for the outdoorsy stuff,

DMM for climbing - never "let me down" biggrin
Regatta/Crag hoppers - good stuff for the price

If you think they're a 'bit pricey' you're obviously in the wrong club wink

Clothes: not at all, though order stuff from LL Bean because they deliver and its cheap ( North America)
Cars: have only had German cars of various types in last ten years...but no one brand
Watches: have one good one (Jaeger) and the rest are cheaper and multiple brands
Drinks: Mainly wine so no dominant winery. V rarely drink beer of spirits.

About the only thing I get where I have a specific brand loyalty are cufflinks, which I buy at Longmire almost exclusively.

Hugo Boss - I have to agree on that one, its one of the only brands I don't mind shelling out, the fabrics are great, the cut is always spot on, and I really like the subtle branding on most of their range.

..I just try to ignore where Hugo's big commissions came from in the early days!!

Mum is a Manager at Loakes so shoes wise that is all I wear.

With clothes I tend to stick to Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren just becuase I like their style of clothes but if I saw something in NEXT that I like I wouldn't have any hesitation in buying it. If I like something and it is within my budget then I buy it!
