Why are young men doing it? For themselves, for girls or for other 'like-minded' young men?
Do any of you wear your trousers low to show them?

I like to see it, to be honest, it's a useful tool.
Some do it and some don't and it enables me to sift out which of my children's friends are worth trying to have a conversation with and which are just pointlessly dim fashion victims.

Because they are stupid. No other way to explain it. Same as they lack the ability to wash.

What they don't maybe realise is it was a way of 'advertising' yourself to other gangstas.

If the youth of today want to follow the prison rent boy look then fair enough. Just have a little giggle to yourself and let them get on with it.

I reckon it's gangsta prison fashion, like when the dirty pigs take your belt & laces off you you wander around with your trousers falling down.

See also that spastic shuffle these people put on to make them look like they are carrying a heavy firearm tucked down their pants.

Possibly both are related...

It always amuses me to see how many steps they can take before pulling them up. The other funny thing is the further they walk, the wider their legs get to stop them falling down to their ankles. Personally i cant stand it, but i know a fair few people who think it is "the norm" tsch.

I see a lot of it at uni, there's a group of medical students I know who go around with their trousers propped up by the back of their knees, hands tucked down inside the front (the fronts of their trousers seemto defy gravity somehow... maybe that's what their hands are doing) and generally looking like scarecrows, God only knows what the interview panel were on when they thought they'd make good doctors.

I do smile to myself and think, what a wker. The trouble is, the yoof of today think its fashionable to be gangsta, and they all want to be "packing an iron innit, then if anyone messes wiv me st, i can bust a cap in em innit" I blame american society and films for the gradual decline in intelligence of the young today

Nearly correct.

I believe the trend originated in some of the U.S. more southerly prisons

amongst black inmates.Just prison fashion is all.

Makes me laugh when middle class boys wander down the high street on Saturday afternoons

chillin' wid their bhes.(enjoying a stroll with their ladyfriends)

I don't understand this.
A few weeks ago I was waiting to fill up with diesel. The lad in a 206 in front came out from paying, leant into the car and sorted his wallet etc out, then straightened up and deliberately pulled his jeans down so they were halfway down his arse cheeks, before getting in and driving away.
confused

Mine sometimes hang a bit low, because 1. I've lost weight so jeans have got a bit looser
2. My belt is a bit big (And I have used a leather punch for other holes but dont want to rip it up more!)
And most importantly 3. I'm a student, can't afford to buy new jeans!

I gather it originated in the US where poor families would clothe kids in their elder kid's hand-me-downs, ergo the baggier your trousers were the bigger your big brother, and respective kudos is.

I'd like to see whether the people complaining now were either dressed either in some idiotic fashion at the time or were the billy-no-mates types that were dressed by their mothers until they left school...
