4.2 Vs 4.5 ( in the real world )
Discussion
Hi, As im always spannering away on my 4.2 and gained a lot of knowledge, i offerd to have a look at the chassis of a mates 4.5 ( which turned out to be mint)
And afterwards we went for a short run in both cars, i was amazed that the cars felt the same, in just about every way.
Ive only every been in my cerb and never experianced any other tvr
I would have thought that due to them being hand built they would be totally differant, and to say mines 3 years older they were so close.
The only noticable differance was the sports exhaust on my mates 4.5 which poped and banged like a good en
Any ways , i just thought id share cause ive seen a few people asking about the differances

I've owned 2 now, a 4.2 and now a 4.5 albeit about 5 years apart.
The only things I notice are:
1) The 4.5 seems much smoother in the power delivery
2) The 4.5 is a lot less tempremental in town traffic - but I did have spurious D throttle issues on the 4.2 ( I ended putting a filter in the ECU!)
3) And for some strange reason - I feel there is more flywheel effect on the 4.5 (more forgiving at getting the revs right)- perhaps the bigger clutch is responsible for this. I dunno TBH
Lovely car(s) btw

Id agree with that,When i first got my 4.2 it was awrful to drive at low revs in town traffic. So Joo at Track car solutions remapped it.
And it totally transformed it, that was money well spent.
I found the 4.2 more revvy, and I liked the 'Vtec' like kick at 3000rpm. The 4.5 felt like a heavier car somehow, smoother and torquier.
Which one is better? Both of them. If I had the chance of a 4.2 or a 4.5, the engine size wouldn't affect my choice, I'd choose the best car, condition and colour wise.

Yes i'm a lucky boy, this is the underside of my car following a bit of TLC, not bad considering i didn't look at it before buying, oh and for the record i only had 3,500 revs on the clock that's why it felt as slow as a 4.2
Like i told you pal,,,, an ajp loves to be reved.
STOP DRIVING IT LIKE A GIRL !!!

Im ordering the ACT big boar exhaust pipes, ive made up my mind after hearing yours.
have you cleaned or painted your chassis ? your pics at bit small, but it looks like you ve done a good job tidying it up

Got it on the pit at work and had about 10 minutes with rags and brake fluid (i think), i need another half hour to get it completely clean.
Also got one of the garage lads to adjust the exhaust pipes - they now fit snuggly in the cut outs below the bumper, so that's another niggle to cross off the list, but don't worry there are still plenty of others for US to deal with later in the year

Next time we meet I'll let you have a go in it again for old times sake and you can see the difference Joo's inlet work and remap made. That 3000rpm kick comes in at 2000rpm now so it's really on torque the whole time which makes it really easy (lazy?)to drive, I'm not trying to keep it over 3k revs all the time.Which one is better? I'll have to scan the curves sometime.
Maybe it's because I'm used to it, but I think the 4.2 engine looks better with the inlet setup rather than the 4.5's pipework.
