Did I read somewhere that the Applecross road is closing later in the year or did I imagine it? I'm going over to Skye for a week in September and would like the chance to go to Applecross.

Bloody hope not - I've got night in Applecross August 22nd with a few other Spitfires and Midgets and it would be a shocker to miss the Bealach.

I would imagine that to be a rumour and nothing more. If they were going to close it I imagine there would have be a lot more discussion about it on here by now! smile

Although, even if they did, there's 2 ways into Applecross so that wouldn't stop you.

Yeah I know ... but the only reason we're pitching up at Applecross is the Bealach. Plan is to arrive via the Bealach and leave next day via the Sheildaig road.

GetCarter said it was closing. It was end of August.

I was over it on Monday (both directions) and there were no signs up (unless I missed them due to the fog!)

Yep - closing for road repairs "end of August", They still haven't given an exact date or how long. Nice of them. I went over last week and the top was crawling with surveyors.

By the way Tony... Shieldaig Fete Saturday afternoon if you're passing - cheap booze, food, music, 5 a side footie, canoe race, golf etc.

I'll put my new toy next to the Scalextric (it's about the right size!)

I was in Applecross last month, and Judith, the owner of the Inn said that it would be closed for 6 weeks in September and October. If Steve Carter hasn't heard any more news, then I guess that it's still open to question, but the road is in pretty poor condition and needs sorting. They've banned trucks over the pass due to subsidence at the edges. I understand that the plan is to resurface a considerable length of it.
Whatever you do, watch out for tourists in cars or motorhomes. They don't quite understand single track roads and passing places.
I would suggest calling the Applecross Inn before you leave, and you'll get any news about the pass.
