Lambo Flies At Pageant Of Power

Gallardo Superleggera takes record (and takes off) at Cholmondeley Pageant of Power

There are those that call the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, held a couple of weeks ago, the 'Goodwood of the North'.

There are those that don't, mind, but the Cheshire-based festival of speed that is most emphatically not the Festival of Speed has an informal intimacy to it that the FoS has long-since lost.

Nobody from PH Towers managed to make it 'oop north' this year to see the second running of the event, but our spies tell us that the CPOP track is quite a challenge.

This year, the event's winner was a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, which beat the previous record by more than two seconds, seeing off competition from rally cars, Le Mans veterans, touring cars and even a current World Superbike.

And, as you can see from the first picture, Nick Faulkner wasn't holding back on the u-shaped sprint course, with his best run of 62.68secs beating the next best time - set by a Metro 6R4 more than 2.5secs.

With action like this, we might have to make an office outing to Cheshire next summer...

(you can have a butcher's at the full CPOP results table here)

Good effort.

Saying that I thought an old 6R4 only being 2.5 secs off the pace was quite impressive too.

Just shows how quick a low powered (by comparison) 25 year old rally car truly is.

Nice Lambo BTW biggrin

I went with the family and had a thoroughly enjoyable day. The "shops" and music and fireworks in the evening also meant Mrs Flat6 and the kids were kept relatively happy.

There were some real rarities in the paddock and I thought the quality of metal on show was very high for an event still in its infancy.

As mentioned above it's much smaller than Goodwood but at least you didn't have to battle through crowds to get close to the track (or cars in the paddock).

Definately one to put on the calendar for next year..

I thought that as well, also reckon the 6R4 is one of the few cars that could beat a Lambo for prescence!

If it was international spec we are talking 410bhp if not then 380bhp but at 1040kgs its not hanging around by any measure. It may all be dependant on the size of the drivers cojones tbh.
