In the ongoing quest for an XJS i have come across a very smart car.

Full S/H and a genuine 86k
AJ16 engine
Stunning flamenko paint
Stunning inside and oout
12 months MOT and lots of tax

BUT

....cloth seats

Now i've had my heart set on leather as it just seems proper for a jag!! If the car above had leather i'd have it without a second thought but the cloth interior is the only thing which is making me think twice...

Would the lack of leather be a deal breaker for any other PH'ers?

Get the seats trimmed in leather or get a set of leather seats of ebay/owners club/scrapyard etc etc?

XJS's are brilliant! Surely you could get it re trimmed though if everything else was perfect?

Ebay is your friend, you'll find seats for it sooner or later

A Jaguar pretty much HAS to have leather. I was amazed when looking at XJs a few years ago that some didn't. If the car is a good'un though then I'd buy it and do as other posters here have suggested and get the seats re-trimmed or get some off ebay.

Good choice. I'd try a breakers yard.

Oh, YouTube wheeler dealers xjs. It's a great programme where they buy and work on one

Cloth is fine, you won't slide out of the seat when you up-rate the suspension and start ragging it...

If its that good you've still got to get it leather or not !!

I still miss the fact that I could have had a cracking black XJS V12 that just looked the nuts !! I should have got it just to park in my drive way - it looked fab !!

If the rest of the car is spot on then it's a no brainer, i'd rather go find some leather seats than be fixing poor bodywork or mechnical bits.

The fact that it is an AJ16 is far more important than many may realize. smile

I'm not that fussed on leather anyway, but, and if it was the only issue on an otherwise perfect car, I'd go for it.

If it's an issue you can always source a leather interior with matching door cards from ebay/breakers.

Join a Jag forum. Must be a second hand set available somewhere.

If the mechanicals/body are decent - go for it!

Either way make sure you have leather, I will never own a car without it.

If you have to get it re-trimmed so be it.

I prefer alcantara to leather. Cloth wouldn't bother me either, unless resale value is an issue.

I think i'll defo go and have a look, its up for 3950 which for a seemingly stunning car and trade seems very good! How much do you think i'll be able to get the dealer down to? i think the lack of leather is the only lever i've got to be fair to him.

Personally, I prefer cloth seats to leather. Feel more comfortable.
