I am going to be flying down for a weekend in the next couple of months and was wondering which would be the best airport to fly to to get to the Excel centre. The cheapest flights are to Luton, but for an extra £30 you can go to Heathrow. Is it worth the extra £30 to go to Heathrow or is it just as easy to get to the centre from Luton?

Also what's good to do on a Sunday, was thinking of going to the Tate Modern or something like that.

Haven't been to London in about 5 years and don't know the city at all so any help welcome. Thank you thumbup

I know this isn't what you've planned, but have you considered getting the train?

It takes about 2 hours from here (Wigan). I know the plane will be twice as fast but with the train there's not the hassle of checking in, waiting for luggage etc.

I think there's not much difference to go to Luton to get into central London. It's probably a better airport than Heathrow now...

Loooooads to do in London.

If you're haedimg to the Tate Modern, do all all the other stuff on South bank, lunch on Gabriels Wharf then BFI, Dali exhibition in County Hall & Aquarium, London Eye.. Pop to Covent Garden over Millenium bridge.
Could head west and do some supercar spotting in Knightbridge, and then see all the artists displaying their work around Hyde Park at Bayswater on sundays.

For Excel you are much better flying to London City if you can.
Or get the train. Remember to add an extra £30 or so to the flight cost to get to and from the Airport.

If you fly to Luton, you still have to get a train into London, and then the tube to wherever.
If you fly to Heathrow, you're straight onto the Victoria line, but it takes about 20 odd minutes to get into the centre of London.
Both these still mean you have to get the tube/DLR to the Excel.
Fly to City and you are almost at the Excel, then you have the DLR/tube to get anywhere for the evening.

As for things to do, Tate Modern is worth the visit. It all depends what your interests are, and how much time you have. The transport museum in Covent Garden, take in a show,

Luton - Bus then train then tube then DLR to Excel
Heathrow - Piccadilly line then central line then DLR to Excel
City - DLR then tube into town
Train - Northern line then DLR (Assuming you come into Euston/Kings X)

Personally I'd stay in town and go out to Excel.
