It's a 2000 Eunos NR Limited. I've had this problem ever since I got the car...
To help all you experts, here are the symptoms.

Firstly, there is a strange 'whining' noise coming from the rear Near side. This is a constant whine, that will disapear if I briefly just pull the steering wheel to the right, then as soon as I go straight ahead the whine re-appears.

Secondly, when accelerating, when the clutch is pushed down to change gear, or I lift off from the accelerator, the car pulls quite strongly to the left, and straightens itself as soon as I start accelerating again.

The car has new Toyo Proxies. Tyre pressures are 26psi. It's recently had a full 4 wheel allignment, tracking, camber etc. Replacement standard shocks just fitted..

Any one have any ideas?

Front left wheel bearing?
As you come off the throttle, the weight transfers to the front, putting more load on the bearing. Similar with the turning to the right, just taking the weight off of the front left wheel.

Thanks for the quick reply. But front left? The whine, although hard to pinpoint, seems to be coming from the rear left.

Hi Alan, may be worth taking it for a spin without using the brakes until you come to a complete stop and check the disks all round for heat - sounds like it could be a sticking caliper or something like that to me? Rear would make more sense as it would be countered by power to the wheels if it only happens when lifting off, I am not convinced on the weight transition theory, but worth a quick look, certainly barings could be the issue, but I should think rear is more likely?

(I have a mk2 Sport, nice addition to a Cerb!) smile

The whine could be your brake pad. On the pad is a metal clip that runs on the pad surface once it has worn down. It's fairly easy to check out.
