I posted about this in the boat section Simpo - any tips on where to go for views - you're marginally more local than me!

I've been told Cliff Park (where the concert will be) is the best view point but I'm not sure if it'll be the same for photographers. How far from the shore do these events usually take place??

Going to wander up in a short while as the boats are meant to be on display. Will *try* and suss it out, but don't hold out much hope!

I've not gone, got a last minute invite to a cocktail party tonight, so doing that instead - no dedication I know. Perhaps tomorrow...

Morals time. If you'd taken a photo of the fatal accident, would you sell it to the media?

I'm kind of glad I don't have to make that decision.

Saw it on the ticker on sky news late last night not good. Hopefully as it was the offshore class it wasn't in full visibility of everyone?

Assuming the media was offering a reasonable amount to make it worthwhile .... in otherwords they thought it was a justifiable photo to run .....

If you wouldn't, given that powerboating is a sport with a known risk factor, often involves waves has claimed a few well known 'names' over the years, incidents often reported with photos to illustrate the reports, what would make this any different?

The repport (I have read several web pages but they all seem to be the same report, more or less, does not suggest anything gruesome occurred that would make photos unpalatable. So far they report 3 people in the boat that hit a wave (appaarently) and flipped. Of the 3 people on board one seems to be OK, one has unspecified head injuries and the other, aged in his 60s reportedly, died from 'cardiac arrest'. How to interpret that as a background for a moral decision about selling a photo is tricky, IMO.

If the circumstance reported here would be enough to decline to sell the photo (and presumably therefore decline to give it away as well) then what else would one not see in the press or on the news? Bomb victims? Fire victims? All photos of accidents of any kind? Images of Katie Price ..... oh, hang on, would it be possible to convince people not to take and sell images of Katie Price?

I took a sequence of shots of a racing accident a few weeks ago. Looks nasty but the result was a damaged car, a new helmet sale and a couple of bruises (so I was told by some friends of the drive who asked if anyone had any photos.) I sent them what I had to pass on to the driver concerned (presumably all above board - who knows?) and I used one of the less dramatic shots as an illustration in a forum. I've heard nothing back from the driver so I assume he is not too concerned to see the shots in their full size glory or about what I may at some point use them for. I don't suppose they were worth useful money so I had no need to resist the press.

The lack of names in the report is a little unusual. Makes one wonder if there are some 'names' involved. No doubt if there as frames or footage something will appear on the net in a few days.

He's Ian Stirling, who is an ex-British Class 3C champion. He was 59 years-old. And Police are requesting for any photos or videos in their investigation.
