I need some electrpnic/circuit help

I have decided to build a wind turbine generator as a fun project.
I want to also do it for lunch money kind of cost.
I have foudn the engine I believe will do the job. And knwo what and where to get for parts.
the only thing I am compeltely not capable of making is the charge controller for it. I found numerous plans on the internet but i have no idea how to bring them to life.
I could jsut buy it on the internet ready made, but that would mean i still have no idea how one works.

any circuit pros out here willing to lend me a hand?
