Looks good, but no reviews yet. The previous one XS350 was accused of being a bit slow and clumpy to use. Is the new one improved, or have they just added other bells and whistles?

sorry I am talking about the Humax foxsat which is a freesat 320gb PVR with twin tuners

Humax have been doing this for some time with a tried and tested interface so I would look at them before panasonic or anyone else IMO

Looking at the specs it also looks to have more space than the Pansonic and also at less than half the price.

Humax also do the 500gb version but I guess it boils down as to whether the OP wants a DVD disc drive also

Panasonic have been doing PVRs for TV/freeview and freesat easily as long as Humax.

The Panny has a built in DLNA Sever, will download from your video camera, records from an external source (eg. sky box) and has full DVD playback & record.

It looks like the most credible alternative to the Humax, which is why I'm wondering about it. We've got an old Pioneer PVR/DVD which has done well, but we're moving into a new house which is wired for HDMI and Ethernet rather than scart, so it's possibly time to get a new set up.

I'm also considering a Marantz SR6003 AV Receiver - which gives us full surround sound and twin HDMI out, so can feed our lounge which is wired for tv + projector + speakers.

I didn't know I was buying it for you. ;-)

The hard disk size is irrelevant - the data encoding and compression quality have a bigger impact (and no, I don't know which is the better, that's why I'm asking).

Being able to play back recordings on any TV in the house sounds quite a useful feature, and the ability to archive things off to disk and/or share them with friends is also helpful. Does the Humax have a mechanism for saving content off disk?
