I understand that road deaths are a tragedy and no one in their right mind wants to see people killed on the roads. But you have to understand a simple fact, speed does not kill! Inappropriate speed may kill yes, but I think you would find that in the majority of accidents speed was not the cause. The reason you are pushing anti-speed on people is that its something you can measure and capture on camera, something that can produce figures and statistics to meet targets, to make you look good in a time where most police forces successful captures and detection rates in other areas of law enforcement are woefully poor. Yet these other areas are pushed to the back, hidden away, because look us we saved x-thousand people this month with our shiny speed cameras. The fact you netted yourself a nice income, well you don’t care about that do you?
Also how can you say that a speed camera saves 1000 or 5000 lives? We live in an uncertain world where no-one can see into the future and no-one can predict what if? These fabricated statistics are nonsense with real death figures proving that.
Mobile speed camera units are put in totally unsuitable areas, I have seen them on motorways and on straight open stretches of NSL roads with no residential areas for miles. It is this sort of behaviour which breeds contempt and resentment towards the police.
Speed cameras apply a blanket limit, a limit set for the lowest common denominator. Circumstances, level of traffic, weather conditions, skill of driver, ability of car etc are NOT taken into account.
Modern day cars stop so much better than when the Highway Code was written, even a humble Ford Focus can stop in a shorter distance than the Highway Code says.
Take the situation, a beautiful clear day on a motorway. There is no traffic, roads are dry and you have a skilled driver, in car able to safely go at much higher speeds than that and stop from those speeds, making progress at a steady 80mph. A speed camera would flash him and he would get a fine, when in reality he did nothing wrong and was certainly not going to cause any accidents. Yet if someone goes along same piece of motorway at 70mph in bad fog or ice, tailgating people or cutting people up, he can go through that camera as a law abiding citizen. I ask you, who is the danger?
But the second person is a good driver he is driving at the speed limit, or at least that’s what we seem to be getting made believe.
I also have a problem with the fact that you get flashed by a speed camera, you complete your journey in a safe manner yet you get fined and points? This doesn’t make sense and in no other area of law would this stand!!! And what’s worse we have no way to defend ourselves, no way to try and make our case. It’s a blanket law and it is ridiculous.
If you really want to stop accidents and stop deaths how about looking into these areas:
- Tailgating
- Failure to indicate
- Failure to check blind spots when changing lanes, pulling out from side of road etc.
- Poor observation, not looking far enough ahead on road,
- Driving at a speed that doesn’t allow you to stop in the distance you can see
- Suicidal pedestrians not looking before crossing road
- Drink Driving
- Driving under influence of drugs
- Poor lane discipline on motorways (cutting up) and roundabouts
- Poorly judged overtaking manoeuvres
- Poorly maintained car, no brakes, bald tyres
- Not driving appropriate to conditions
- Talking on mobile phone when it’s inappropriate to do so.
- Driving too slow, causes queues and people try to overtake, often misjudged, to get past slow drivers
- Failure to overtake, sitting behind a slower car only causes congestion and hence impatient people try inappropriate overtakes.
- Old people with slow reactions, poor eyesight
Will these areas be looked at ? I fear not until we have cameras which can detect them and serve a notice asking for money, because putting police on the roads that can actually SEE it happening with their eyes and do something about it appears to be too much like hard work.
It is no wonder that people have no respect for the police anymore, we see you for what you are; thieving, lying, hypocritical, lazy and manipulative.
I also see you are saying on this site that 33% of accidents are caused by speed when in actual fact it is closer to 3%!!!
I was on a motorway yesterday, lovely day, not much traffic and there was a scamera van parked on a long straight section!!, tell me why that is needed there!!!! Makes me sick!!!

Ah now i feel better, also the speed camera van mentioned above a loud blast of hte horn to show my disapproval as I drove past at 60

I bet all I will get back will be a standard response saying that they are trackling all areas of improving driving blah blah blah, thanks for your views blah blah blah. The same response that will be sent to anyone who sent in a message.
Nothing is going to change their views, its too easy money for them and too easy to show targets being met, even if they are meaningless targets...

The only thing these theiving fascist scammers understand is a petrol filled tyre and a source of ignition.
Its the only thing that actually bites into their ill gotten gains.
Its the only thing that hits THEM where it hurts. Which is why you always hear them bleating (pussies) about "lives being put at risk by these mindless vandals". (BIG FAT YAWN)
Theyre going to do whatever it takes to protect their revenue stream, and it dosent make a shit of difference how many people write in with letters of disapproval.
Wanna know why? Cos they simply despise us, they look down on us, they see us as "prey" to be harvested; a nice, fat living to made by milking the cash cow.
The only thing thats gonna get this particular monkey off our backs is a fightback, of the direct action type.
Theres a place and time for words, but i think its time to stop talking and start doing.
A good hard kick, metaphorically speaking, in their soft exposed "genitalia" (scameras) will make a point far more strongly than a "we dont like what youre doing" letter.
Im getting MY kicking boots on right now.

I assumed my female alter character, hereby named Gladys, to give the scamera paternerships a big thumbs up.
Do you think they'll get the point?

Hello,
May I applaude your attempts to obtain the views of the ordinary woman in the street. I believe cars travel far too fast these days and quite frankly, It scares me! I would never use excessive speed and I drive as slowly as possible, to try to get others behind me to do the same. This often results in some rediculous actions of my fellow road users, however as I'm "killing my speed", I'm morally in the right am I not?
On your survey, I have answered to the best of my ability, but one question I strongly agreed with.
"Camera's have made me more aware of the speed I travel."
I have to agree that I focus more on my speedometer now, however, it takes a moment for my eyes to adjust, you see, I'm a little short sighted and don't like wearing my glasses while driving.
Keep up the good work and lets see you "drive" these dangerous speeding drivers off the road for good and make the roads safer for children to play in.

No, they will think you really mean what you say and that you are a safe driver.
