330d m sport sloppy gear stick
Discussion
It's not the ball 1/2 way down the stick but at the bottom there are 2 nylon spacers that wear. Can be resolved by putting a washer in to take up slack, or just ask BMW to show you the pic on their parts computer. It'll make sense when you see it. Or take a look at www.realoem.com. Besta luck matey

hi all my cars gear stick very sloppy someone told me it was the the white plastic cup at bottom of the gearstick ball any ideas whats it called and is it easy to change thanks charlie
This is so annoying - my car has the same issue and when I specifically asked that this was dealt with before I bought the car, the [network] dealer told me when I picked it up that it was a common and there was nothing that could be done. Grrrr. When you say easy to do, what does it involve? Does the car need to be on a ramp for example?

Its not on there (but good site!)I went into the dealer at the weekend. They didn't know what gearbox commas were.
They pulled up the diagrams etc and thought this was just 2 washers/spacers at the bottom of the gearstick. The problem is they cannot identify the part number so can only order the parts as a new lever kit.
Also, one of the technicians said that to replace it, it needs to be up on ramps and the exhaust needs dropping to remove the gearbox access panels. All in all its a half day job to rectify a wobbly gearstick.
This all seems far from a simple DIY job - am I missing something? It feels like it is.
