Speed Traps and the Mags!
Discussion
According to "Mail on Sunday" (page 15), over 1000 JPs have been copped ...speeding!
"The astonishing tally will be seen as further proof that cameras penalise normal law-abiding people whilst doing nothing the tackle the real danger of uninsured drivers in unssafe, unregistered cars."
Damien Green (Tory Transport spokesman) said: "Some of the most respectable pillars of the community are being criminalised by speed cameras. I do not believe that magistrates are dangerous drivers! The speed camera system is out of control"
The Department for Constitutional Affairs does not keep records of JPs with motoring convictions, but the Mail alleges that it pressurised the officials to investigate. Apparently 514 magistrates have received fixed penalties since 2001. Somerset reports 7.3% of their Mags have been persecuted, with Cambridgshire and Lincolnshire also reporting high numbers. The paper alleges that if these figures as indicator levels were applied nationwide - then over 1000 Mags could be " hardened little speedophiles!"
Notts, Northants, Leics, WALES, Norfolk, Derbyshire, amongst others refused to join in the fun and provide some figures! What are they hiding?
Did read some time ago that there is a shortage of potential Mags because they have "more than 3 points on their licences!"

Just because they are respectable pillars of the community doesn't make them good drivers

"Not good" does not equal "dangerous" - Streaky

No, but just because they're caught speeding doesn't automatically make them bad or dangerous drivers.
Totally agree. Most of the time its the people who aren't comfortable at driving at speed and to the conditions that the road, weather and volume of traffic are dictating that are the bad drivers
but it make you wonder if you are in court would it be an idea to ask if the mag has arecord before or after you have been deemed guilty. They would not have someone who has committed the same crime as you normally sit in judgement on you in any other case, or is this another rule of law which has been changed to accomadate the revenue officers?

Indeed, hypocritical or what? A business associate of mine is a Magistrate and he has a long history of 'fast' cars including several BMW 'M' models and currently drives an X5, I'm not aware if he has any points but I can assure you he exceeds (in complete safety of course) the limits on a regular basis.

He is however a good driver! but not sure how he treats 'speeding motorists' when up before him.
