Ok, it should be the easiest thing in the world... however, i have just spent the last 2 days on a quality assurance course for work which was true death by power point and despite pulling all the hair out of my arms and drinking 2 pints of coffee I still found my self nodding away!

Not only does this mean i learnt next to nothing it's pretty rude... but there was literally nothing i could do!

Anyone got any tips?

Tell the person that their presentation sucks and you are falling asleep.

Or go and have a tommy tank. It will either send you into an after-sex-like-coma or you will feel really awake.

I'm the same in lectures so I doodle or end up playing on my iPhone to keep my brain occupied. It's really annoying because no matter how hard I try I can't stay awake!

during the first 12-18 moths of my PhD, I would be able to concentrate and stay awake through almost any seminar/visiting person's talk. Now, about 5 years on... If something is not in my field or just a little dull, I instantly fall asleep. This happens no matter how tired/awake I am. It's very distressing, and as you say, very rude too. i just can't help it.

Sit near the front and get invovled. Otherwise it doesn't matter how well you slept and how much coffee you had, you'll fall asleep in a dull presentation!
