Wobbly/ loose Raid steering wheel
Discussion
Hi guys,
Just driven from Bournemouth to Bristol and back when on the way I noticed the steering wheel felt loose and I was able to wiggle it, being able to push/pull it a few mms at the top/ bottom and sides of the wheel- it's always been very securely fixed before. I'm not talking about play in the rack when I turn the wheel, but the steering wheel itself feeling as if it's no longer properly attached to the column.

This is a pic of the wheel, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where to start looking to get into it or remove it?!

I have a RAID of a different design - it has six exposed screws where the chrome bezel is on yours; does the bezel unscrew? Sounds like the locking nut needs tightening - I would suggest getting a new nyloc nut if this is the case as they are designed as one-use items. You will need a long socket to torque it back up so expect a visit to your local motorfactor

Thanks bluetone! Managed to remove the horn section as the chrome bezel doesn't appear to detach, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the locking nut, which was solid, but another sort of bezel or plate that the chrome bezel pictured is attached to at its rear. Unfortunately we couldn't get to whatever's attaching the two bezel/ plates and the wheel wouldn't come off when the central nut was removed... I just hope it gets me to Reading tomorrow!
So to sum up, the wheel's fixed firmly to the column, but some part of the wheel's worked loose from the rest of it. I'll have another go trying to find more info on Raid.
