Hi, i'm 27 male and close to passing my test and thought being a bit older I wouldn't be as limited on choices on which car to start with.In true PH style i've taken a fancy to the MX5 but a few quotes i've got through comparison sites have been pretty high around £1k plus.
I'd heard about classic insurance and was thinking I could use this as a way to a better deal but i'm not sure where to start with this.I tried Adrian Flux who just transferred me to Swinton which was no different from the comparison sites.
Do you have to specify that you want a "Classic" policy or do they just find the best deal for your needs? Are there any other companies who you could recommend?

Cheers

try footman james or lancaster. They're specialist classic insurers.

Cheers going to give them a go, is all classic insurance dependent on a garage?

I'm with Haggerty, on the drive etc for £300. However, it can't be your daily driver.

Most of the time to get a classic you have to own another car that you use mainly, limit the mileage to less than 5000 and for it to be garaged. That's not set in stone but that's usually the case.

Mine insured through Footman James - limited mileage, not garaged though, but I had to access to another car.

Less than £400 quid I seem to remember.

I had some trouble trying to get classic quotes, until I bought "buying, repairing and maintaining classic cars" or some such publication.

Went through the insurers in the back and found most of them to be favourable for driveway parking and only car cover. Got insured on a 500SEC for less than £250 for 5000 miles, only car, no commuting and parked on drive!

Just tried Performance, they said they couldn't do it as it was my first year of driving and he seemed to think that would be a blanket policy with most insurers although i'm sure i've heard of 17/18 yo's getting a Morris as a first car.

Just keep trying, the first few classic insurers I tried weren't too helpful. Then the quotes started coming in, I gave up in the end as the price was so good I didn't want to spend the rest of the day chasing the last twenty or so quid!

mine is on a classic policy through Flux, £260 fully comp protected. Many underwriters like the car to be garaged and the policy holder to have access to a "main" car. Mine is 3,000 miles per annum.
