Discs and Pads for 5 stud conversion

FRP3083H for AP CP6600 calipers . . . (H singifies 2500 compound, there are others of course). These are the later 'eared pad'.
Camskill are normally cheapest, £92:35 plus carriage.
Are yours disks, rotors, what size etc ?
I picked up some new rotors from Hans yesterday as I'm through my first set and he get's his from Hi Spec who do good kit, but had crap customer service, Hans reckons they've improved, but if they had I've of got my rotors from them, but they don't return calls !

OP's asking for disks or floating disks, in which case he'll need bells and I've yet to see floating disks on a TVR, common on bikes and supercars. Mine are bells and rotors, but they're fixed, not floating.
In fairness if you need floating disks you must be really really using 'em
as they're designed to allow for thermal expansion of the disks under heavy use - that's my understanding.
Hans can do you bell's and rotors as can Hi Spec, BG developments and probably the more well known suppliers along with disks, but if you want floaters then you'll have to research where you'll get em from.

david,
i expect they are the same as the cerb ones if its a 5 stud conversion - try their forum.
Also not being awkward but why ds2500- i tried both them and 3000 and found them to have poor performance, being very hard and eating the disks. Mintex 1144 have better bite from cold and paget are just better all round in my experience

Hallo,
I have put quite a lot of time in these disc when I did the Spider upgrade. The disc originally supllied in the factory Spider kit (304 mm) are made specially for TVR by AP . I tried to use a 304 mm Tuscan disc but the height is different and they will run against the trackrod end. And in the Tuscan disc the spigot from the hub is much larger 71,3 mm against 63.4 for the Sierra hud. So you will need a extra spigot ring to get the calipers centralised on the disc.
The original 304 mm "disc" are as far as I know not available anymore. If you need anymore help or info mail me through my profile. As mark states I can get you a bell and disc set-up.
greetings
Hans.

The reason for thinking about changing discs and pads is due to the noise I get when pushing on. When I get some good heat in to the pads they start to rumble. There's no vibration or loss of braking power, they just start to get too noisy.
Has anyone else noticed this 'problem'? I've sort of put it down to either the pads or cross-drilled discs (although the discs do seem very good quality).
I got myself thinking; are the standard (TVR 5 stud conversion) Ferodo pads DS2500 or just normal DS (I'm reasonable sure they're just normal DS grade).
Jesfirth, I've not tried DS2500 compound before on any of my cars but I've heard many folk raving about them. I've had extremely good experiences with M1144. You're saying the Pagid (which type?) is better for fast road and occasional track use? Also hearing good things about Carbon Lorraine RC5+, any views?
Oh and when I said floating, I simply should have said bell and disc, I don't want (or need) the associated noise and cost with a floating set-up.

I've used DS2500 on 300mm drilled and grooved with AP 4 pots for the last 20k or so and love em. They're not like normal road pads from cold, but the size of disk and power of the caliper very quickly get them past the need to push a bit harder very quickly.
DS3000 is a full race pad, that I've had friends run on the road, but got fed up with the squealling, the poor cold feel and they were harsh on disks.
Pagid pads I ran on my S for several years, they were no better from cold than the DS2500, although a different set up and the compounds will have come on a lot. Most people moan about how expensive they are, but they're worth it in my experience although I've not tried them with the current set up, no noise issues and great on track.
I don't get any noise from the DS's and I'm just about to change the rotors for new ones with fresh DS pads. I was running drilled and grooved and have now worn away the grooves, so time to change
I've ended up with grooved only this time, which is OK, would have preferred drilled and grooved, but that's all I could get quickly (thanks Hans) and I don't expect any noise from them.
I change the bells/rotor cap heads for fresh ones and it's important to make sure they are set up properly as big brakes cause big vibrations when they're wrong. The first big set up I had on my S was awful and in the end I took it off as I couldn't get the set up to run well. The current one has been superb and I've had it on the car for 4yrs and 30k+ miles, with a handful of trackdays without issues and I do use them hard on the road as they're very confidence inspiring . . . especially in the Alps
I've had AP brake pads with this set up and the DS's are far far better from cold and disk wear and hot feel.
Carbo Lorraine I've not tried either, Brummie on here is an agent for them I understand, but simply, the DS's do what I want them to do, I've not found them to be harder on the disks than any other fast road pad I've used and what's been very encouraging is the disks have worn consistently across the face on both sides without it biasing at all.
If you are 'using' them rather than 'displaying' them then I can only recommend. Jes's experience will likely differ as will others as we all use them differently, have different quality disks/set up's etc. I've not found a reason to change, so I'm sticking with DS's again . . . If I were to change, I'd try Pagid due to previous experiences.

M1144's are only £25, Ferodos are harder to find & around £70.. I'd rather have a set of M1144's & M1155's
Sounds like the 'Hans' kits must be quite different from the factory kits. TVR 305 & 330mm disks sit fine with the factory hubs & caliper brackets (brackets extended for the 330's diameter of course)

I'll have look if I kept a note. Didn't check the availability of those, but the larger AP5200 ones were certainly a real problem - every one seemed to be out of stock & getting no more? Caused by the Fed Mogul buy out of Chapel-en-le-Frith I suppose?
Send me a mail to remind me Mark sure I wrote it down.
