Gisburn forest
Discussion
Went yesterday (Friday afternoon) with about 20 work colleagues, its only 18 miles from work. I thought I would be OK I have been back at the gym for the past 5 weeks (4 times a week) and done a few 20 miles bike rides on the canal tow path.
First thing I realised everybody else were regular bikers and between 10 and 20 years younger than me. I managed to keep up most of the way. We did the full circuit on the red trail, only pushing the bike on a few major up hills. The Hully Gully was fantastic (black run) I didn't fall off. I fell off on the wooden slats a few times but I put that down to it raining very hard and being very tired. I am a bit stiff today but I will be up for it next week. ( highly recommended)

Hi Ross, I would certainly be interested in a Baltic tour, there are a few people on CTRO who have been on previous tours getting itchy feet for another HET. I stil have the DC5 its paid for, no debt and has 251bhp NA so there is nothing out there that can match it in my price range.
Reference the biking, I am really enjoying it at the moment, I usually do canal tow paths but this Gisburn forest was something else and its on my doorstep. Its getting good reviews on MTB forums and will only get better, If you are ever on your way to the lakes it should be a must do stop over.

Did you have map? it local to me and I get lost every time I go, the routes don't seem to be marked well
When was the last time your went ? It was my first time and the routes were clearly marked. there is a PDF map which is very good http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/englandnwegisburnbi...Good fun aint it?
R.E. getting lost - its the fact that its a figure-8 that confuses some people I think, you get that 'havent we been here before' feeling about halfay round! (where you turn left up the big fireroad climb).
Gisburn is good fun, and there lots of really technical sections through the trees.
The planks are deadly though, my only advice is to ride them deathgrip as if you so much as look at your front brake your coming off if its wet!
P.S. Did you get to the Pub/shop too? They do a cracking Chilli and chips (HOT!) and the staff there are nice people.
Glad you enjoyed it though. are you on the Yorkshire side? As if your 18 miles is to the West then you can't be too far from Dalby either - personally Dalby is even more fun as theres much more opportunity to get some real speed up on the longer, faster downhills.

It's relatively local for me as i live just outside of Lancaster. It's a good course that's been well designed. I took my wife and a kid from her school on the blue course as they would be too stretched on the black - it's a neat little alternative for those getting into biking.
The local pub, as mentioned above, is decent and very bike friendly.
If you're going again give me a shout... I also have a white Honda so we should become bestest friends.

And a very nice white Honda you have ! I have considered one but need the hatch unfortunately. The local pub, as mentioned above, is decent and very bike friendly.

The red/black route was a killer Iam unfit and it took nearly 3 hours to complete but we did stop quite a few times. If we go again it would be after work on Friday afternoons start off about 2pm.

Can't remember seeing any pub on the way. But on my way there I was trying hard to find it and on my way back I was just concentrating on getting home I was that tired. Where is the pub it would be very good way to finish off the day. I came via Burnley/ Barrowford/Blacko/Gisburn/Bolton by Bowland. Pubs there, on the B6478. Car park is South West of it, on the end of Dugdale Lane.

Rode this today. A great route, spoiled by a stupidly long rocky section on the top circle of the "eight". I pushed it around most of that, my idea of cycling is not to be bounced all over the place while avoiding big rocks...
Also, I couldn't find the rollercoaster bit, which was annoying.
