me again. Thanks everyone for the advice on the leaking footwell and high reving, leaking footwell in the process of being sorted with my silocone gun.lol. High reving has been adjusted while my silver cerb (rules!!) was at offord having sports exhauts fitted, sounds nice!! worth every penny. As iam new to tvr i was checking the oil today and noticed the oil didnt even register on the dipstick, obviously ive got to top it up with oil, handbook says tvr approved oil but what sort do i buy? I also noticed the oil filler cap could not be undone by hand is this norm? Getting back to the drivers footwell i noticed that there is a bloody draft round my legs but have been told this is common. Sorry about all the questions still new to tvr.
If it's been serviced at Offord's they use some sort of Shell 5W30 that you can't get for love nor money. However, Redline do a 5W30 that is excellent and available from www.fluke-motorsport.co.uk
Mine was down to just under halfway between FULL and ADD OIL on the dipstick, so I filled it up to nearly FULL anyway. Cams became a lot quieter and the oil pressure went up by about 5psi! I'll be keeping it near the FULL mark in the future.
Seems bizarre to me that the oil capacity is 6 litres, but from the bottom to the top mark on the dipstick is 2 litres. That means you could be running on as little as 4 litres before you add any oil!

Standard oil is Mobil 1 0w40... Available from Halfwits at about £38 for 4l. Personally, I wouldn't run the car on anything thinner, especially as it's coming up to the summer. I can always undo the cover with my fingers, but it does get a bit stiff at times.
Oil usage varies greatly from car to car, but somewhere around 1 litre per 1,000 miles seems to be about the average. Also note that the reading could well vary a lot if the car's on a slope, so make sure it's left to stand on a flat area for a fair while before checking.

I'm thinking of moving away from Mobil 1 0W40. Consensus is that it's a little too thin and consumption is high.
May move to Miller's 10W60 as mentioned by Joospeed (are you going this route Joolz?). Alternatively I've just had mine serviced and they put in Castrol 5W50.
Have a look here for further debate:

I know Joolz was going down the Miller's route, but i think his plans have chenged. He'll be on here later I guess to give his ideas.
This is why I told you what oil Offord's use. You need to put the same sort of oil in that's already in it. You may get away with mixing different weights, as long as the oil type is the same (mineral, semi-synth or fully-synth).
Personally I'd either find out what sort of oil is in it already, or drain it and refill with your chosen oil.
PS: Don't use Magnatec. It's semi-synth.

Given the cost of filling it up from scratch with oil, I'd recommend finding out what's in it first & topping it up if possible.diffrent brands of oils should never be mixed as they contain diffrent emulsifiers ,deturgents etc. if unknown my advice is to drop remaining oil, replace filter & fill with one brand then stick with it! as for grade listen to the people involved with the engines / speak to the tech bufs at the oil supaliars.dont b a randem larger drinker!
