Former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has sparked fury by bidding for a top BBC job less than three months after her political career ended in disgrace.
The ex-cabinet minister, who famously charged taxpayers for the cost of watching two pornographic films, is lobbying to become vice-chairman of the BBC Trust.
The plum position pays £77,000 a year for a two-and-a-half-day week and also offers generous perks.

Ms Smith is hoping to replace the current vice-chairman, Chitra Bharucha, who is stepping down at the end of October
BBC hiring shamed ex-Labour minister? Neeeeeeeeeeever!!

Yesterday, when contacted by The Mail on Sunday, Ms Smith said: ‘How did you know that I had applied?’

Asked whether she thought her bid was likely to succeed, she said: ‘I have made an application, that’s all I know’, before adding ‘f*** off’ and terminating the conversation.

Is that necessarily a bad thing? She might commission a new BBC Sex channel, I'm sure her husband will have a word.

It has to be approved by Jeremy Hunt, so she won't get it!

She is very suited to that position as she already has vast experience in abusing expenses.

No great surprise, they will take what they can get, and in this case she gets to continue claiming expenses that the taxpayer pays for....

No. But the BBC will be creaming in their pants at the prospect of landing one of the head honchos of this country's present mess The Labour Party.

There is no doubt in my mind that she will get the job.
Perhaps the BBC are trying to get as many Labour members on their side just in case the current Government tries to heavily cut back or scrap the licence fee.

Suggestions have been made that the government will dump current members of the BBC Trust, in order to sweep away left wing bias.

If this is true, Jacqui Smith might get the Tea Lady job....smile

If not, she'd make a good batman for Baron Prescott...

If that labour witch gets a foot in the door at the Beeb it's a guarantee that they'll be more partial to Labours lies than ever before...
Why oh why did the Beeb interview Minigland on Sunday ad infinitum when he's a FAILED minister, all he could do is slag off Cameron and tell the world how he would do it better... the chap's a feckin idiot (a sly intelligent one maybe but still an idiot)!!!

amazing, above everything else she was one of our least effective homes secretaries ever. To the point where they didn't trust her intellect to run justice too.
And yet like most of the sponging ex ministers they think they can just stroll into other jobs that control aspects of our lives and/or spending.

Makes me want to read the Mail

Doesn't seem to me to be a tactic best calculated to persuade the government to be nice to the BBC. Rather the opposite.
