Anyone into hurling?
(I thought about posting this in the International Irish forum, then thought it would just get moved to the sports forum, now I'm wondering if it will just end up in the Irish forum
)
Still, I've been following Waterford all season and there is the match with Tipp coming up in a few weeks at Croke Park which I hope to go and see.
Fantastic game hurling is, almost as good as cricket!

I enjoy watching it, I prefer gaelic football though, probably because I have family in Mayo and they all seem to prefer gaelic football.
I've been to a few smaller games but I would like to see some All-Ireland games in the future. I do get drawn into it and find myself shouting at the TV although my understanding of the game is on the basic side.

Used to be a regular viewer when it came on Terrestrial TV,but out of touch since it turned to Sky over the last few years. Brilliant game,but dangerous(most dangerous goes to Jai Alai surely?). The pitches are huge aswell,this was clear to see when Ireland played Rugby at Croke Park.
We were taught Gaelic Football in an English school,which is quite rare i imagine.

I played hockey at school, and we played hard, but it was nothing like the contact these guys play.
IIRC hurling is supposed to be one of the fastest field sports on the planet, and seriuosly the level of skill that these guys play at when they are running around with a ball balance on the end of a bit of wood is outstanding.
Even more so when you watch a group of players around a 'dead' ball and then all of a sudden it is scooped up on a stick and a player manages to carry it out of the ruck.
It really is a one hell of a game.

The elusive 5 in a row remains just that. Cracking final. Tipp were really up for this one after last year. You have to have the upmost respect for Kilkenny though, to be in with a shout of winning 5 in a row is a remarkable achievement, even the great Kerry team fell short against Offaly in 82. Lar Corbett has to be man of the match.
The premier county are back in their rightful place.

One of the most enjoyable games of hurling I've seen for a while. Absolutely phenomenal pace and commitment by all 30 players. Like all other 31 counties I was shouting for the Premier, but next year Liam McCarthy will take his rightful place back on the banks of the Lee
Well, I can dream can't I?!
I'm not sure where in the UK anyone reading this thread would be able to watch the match or hightlights, but the game yesterday was such a spectacle, and lived up to all the hype surrounding it that if there was ever a match to show someone and tell them this is hurling, then it would be right up there with the best of them.
It's available to stream on the www.rte.ie website, but I'm not sure if it can be accessed from abroad.
