24k Service...what's covered?

I normally service all my cars (have for many years as I trust myself more than most garages). Having now bought a Tamora, I will get the car serviced at a Specialist to maintain the record.

I've been tinkering with the car and installed a breather system for the oil tank, this led to me removing the air box (st design..another story), which means new Pipercross filter, obviously the oil filter is right there so I'm tempted to do an oil swap aswell.

I'm planning to sort out a few wires and improve the fit of the airbox, if I do this and a garage then service the car, they won't put it back as I will (they have timelimits/cost).

So I wanted to know what else is done in the 24k service that might need the airbox to come off or could be upgraded/improved in the process (silicone hoses all round).

Any thoughts?

I don't think there is a 24k service. I know Castle used to offer a 24K service but IIRC this was just what was covered on a std 12K service as their 12K service covered fewer items but was priced less

12K includes: plugs, engine, diff & gearbox oil, brake fluid, fuel filter, tappets, Geo check/adjust plus other checks (like 100a fuse condition)

I used str8six for my 12K (£750) last Oct and for the 'remedial work' I will be going again in Oct for my 6K. Search them they get very good write up as do others, there are some not so good ones too but stick with the main names that crop up on here and you won't go far wrong.

Well if you want a service doing properly then I'd expect the servicing garage to check the alternator and air-con units/belts, the wiring, the 100A alternator to battery fuse, the HT leads, the fuel lines (heat damage etc.), engine mounts. All of these may need to airbox removing to check. Why not do the things you describe after the service?

btw 24k mile service is the same as a 12k service - all 6l + fluids, suspension alignment, tappets.

Unfortunately the airbox is sat on my bench at the moment being cleaned up to get rid of the oil over the years that's made it in there. I'll call the Garage tomorrow and see what they think of my tinkering.
