mk1 golf gti idling problem

Hmmm some interesting replies here.
Anyway, first stop is the idle control screw on the back on the manifold. From memory if that falls out (as it did on mine) it will idle about 3,200rpm so that sounds the first place to look. It is a brass screw that should be thread-locked into the manifold - it is a bugger to do as you can't see it and have to feel round the back. Easiest thing to do is use a mirror or feel around there and if you feel air being sucked in then that's the job.
