Daily driver: X5 to Elise - am i mad?
Discussion
Looking at taking the plunge from one end of the automotive spectrum to the other - X5 to elise..... anyone done this before? What are the Lotus' like to live with everyday?
Would be looking at a budget of around £13k - what sort of motor will I be able to get for my money? I definitely want an S2, but other than that the array of models is confusing. Can anyone give me some clarity/guide!?
Are there any specific options/colours I should go for for resale?
There seems to be an extreme range of weekend/trackday low milers to every day high milers. Is there any benefit with elises going with low milers?
I'm guessing the move from X5 to elise may be a bit of a culture shock, but I'm looking for something relatively cheap to run but is serious fun.

How many miles do you do? I had an S1 elise as a daily driver but I wasn't doing many miles. They aren't as uncomfortable as some people make out but I wouldn't fancy doing lots of miles in one. I've never met anyone who can get out of an S1 with the roof on and not look like a muppet. Not been in an S2 but I don't imagine it's much different.
Is this your only car? You can't really fit much in the boot so I'd rule out doing the weekly shop in one.
I personally wouldn't want an elise as a daily driver again. How about somewhere in the middle? £13k would get you a lot of car. Maybe a Boxster? Some kind of TVR? Z4?

Miles? Not many during the week, about a 10 mile round trip. Often do 200 mile round trips every so often at weekends, but for leisure only Is this your only car? You can't really fit much in the boot so I'd rule out doing the weekly shop in one.

It will be my only car, but I very rarely have much more in my car than two bags of shopping!
What sort of Elise should I be looking at for the money?
