Official Rendering: Ferrari P4/5 Competizione

A sneak peek at how James Glickenhaus's Ferrari Nurburgring racer will look

Last week we brought you the build story and behind-the-scenes images of wealthy Ferrari enthusiast James Glickenhaus's project to create a unique Ferrari endurance racer; today we bring you a rendering of how that car will look.

The Ferrari P4/5 Competizione - like the Enzo-derived P4/5 Pininfarina special on which the Competizione's styling is based - harks back to the P series Ferrari sports cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s. It will also reveal no evidence whatsoever of the Ferrari F430 Scuderia chassis and F430 GT2 running gear that have sacrificed themselves for its creation.

As the image shows, the P4/5 C gets a more agressive front splitter than the 2006 Pininfarina P4/5, and will also be treated to a sprinkling of styling cues from the classic P3/4 and 412P Ferrari sports racers.

And for those wondering why Mr Glickenhaus has had to cull a Scuderia and a GT2 race car in order to make the P4/5 C, there is method in his madness: once he's done racing, James wants to make the P4/5 C road legal. And to do that in the US you need a road-legal donor vehicle - hence the death of the Scuderia.

If only I had the money. I could possibly manage a Metro/6R4 conversion (minus the engine, brakes, running gear etc etc)Something like this:

Regardless of money though the chap needs some balls to take on such a project, imagine if it doesn't work!

Fantastic, now I know the reasoning behind using an F430 GT2 Racer instead of an Enzo and seeing that rendering I'm fully behind it.

Beautiful, looks better dare I say it than the road car.

Any reason the 430 he chose was a scuderia? I would have thought he's only using the basic chassis, so surely a stock 430 would have been just as good?

IIRC the weight saving on the scud over the standard car is not much and its probalby mostly in the stuff the James is going to throw away.. doors, engine cover, seats, wheels, brakes etc. etc.?

Puzzled.

Very pretty race car though!

Is that a render from Gran Turismo the PS3 game? If you look at the writing on the windscreen top edge it has the GT logo?

Because all cars in Nurburgring 24 hours run with Gran Turismo wind screen strips due to sponsorship

It's great, all except rectangular gaping mouth, there's a difference between slavishly aping the orginal and taking styling signature cues from the original, now I can only assume the very squareness of it's mouth (unlike the original eliptical vent) is modern aero, air flow, but it's squareness sits badly with the nice curves of the rest of the car in my humblest of opinions, needs more work, otherwise to paraphrase the movie 'Delieverance' "you sure ain't gotta pretty mouth!"

I like that a lot - better than pretty-much all of Ferrari's current stable (maybe except for the 599, which I DO like).

Oh to have the money to be able to do that and the skill to be able to race it...

Perhaps the guy using the surfacing s/w hasn't got to grips with compound curves yet. The front looks like a he's a real beginner, or maybe he is using a very basic package. Whatever the reason the front looks ste.

The look isn't really felicitous.

But it is a race car, hence it has to be fast.

If it is fast, the look can be forgiven...

Im not sure why its a scud over a standard 430, saves hauling all the carpets and crap out I guess? I know its not enzo based like the first one because they dont allow carbon chassis in the N24. He that posted himself somewhere.
