I have a question please smile

On a 1969 car, do I need to have a column/dash mounted switch capable of flashing the headlights for the MOT?

My indicator switch has failed, I can't get the steering wheel off to replace it so thought I might just use a universal large stalk toggle type to replace it with but it won't have the "pull back" position to flash the headlights.

Is this OK?

I'll still have main beam operation when the headlights are on and via the floor mounted foot switch.

I'm no MOT tester, but my Camaro doesn't have any dedicates switch to flash the lights and its never been mentioned.

OK thanks - might be alright then!

I couldn't see anything in my MOT testers manual about it either.

I don't see why it should be an MoT problem. Cars with pop-up headlamps have no practical "flash" capability even though the system is often wired to allow it (subject to couple of seconds delay while the pods get organised).

OK, thanks.

I can leave the floor switch on the full beam position and just use the pull out switch for the headlights on the dash to flash them smile

I think I'll go for a better aftermarket switch then for the indicators than a standard one.

It's a construction & use requirement and there is/was a maximum time allowed for the pods to come up.

Thanks. I guess it's another example where MoT is more relaxed than OE spec'.

Excellent, thanks for that - it's a different site to the one I have a link for at home.

But there is no mention of a momentary switch to flash main beam when required, so I should be fine fitting a different switch for the indocators that does not have this function.

There will of course be a connection off the existing switch for this so I may wire that to a push switch somewhere within easy reach.

My 1970 car went for its MOT with the flasher stalk broken, and it passed without comment.
