I understand that fixed gatsos cannot get you when driving towards them even tho they still flash, anyone know if this is correct?
If it is correct why dont the same rules apply to mobile scamera vans? I see them all the time filming on-coming traffic.

I think it's to avoid the flash which can dazzle a driver, who is going towards it.

SPECS also get you from the from, no visible flash though.


Forward facing Gatsos are being triallied in Essex at the minute though

Truvelos (the ones with a red lens) will also get you from the front. The GATSO being rear facing is to do with the flash blinding you.

Mind you - they could have saved themselves the webspace, by say ing "sh1te" under every category. Pretty much explains them in my view!

But the gatsos round here (somerset) still flash if youre going towards them. I thought it was something to do with human rights and not being able to photograph from the front because it would identify the driver and who he was with ie his mistress!

Here in South Wales we have loads of cameras on single carriageways that appear to cover both directions of traffic... is that possible?

Yes you can still trigger the gatso when going towards it and get a blinding flash in the face, but as far i know it cannot be used for a prosicution. Im trying to find out why - anyone know? And why dont same rules apply to scamera vans?

As I understand it though they are being used to suppliment existing rear-facing Gatso sites, so you have two cameras at the same site to provide the scamera partnerships with the two pictures from the back and also one from the front to prove who was driving.

They are supposed to be installing one on Southern Way in Harlow, but I haven't seen any evidence of it yet.

If you get flashed from infront then I suggest taking the matter up with the authorities on the basis that it is dangerously distractive and could even cause momentary blindness which will inevitably cause more accidents.

Because you can say that the flash blinded you and appeal! It briefly mentions that on the previously mentioned webpage.....

All cameras currently used for speed enforcement, which take a pic at the front of the car, do not use a flash AFAIK - this would include scamera vans and truvelos.

I have only ever set off one gatso by heading towards it, and nothing came of it. I have gone past others above the limit and not been 'got' - i guess it depends on teh set up of teh canmera (width of road etc)
