My brother has organised a charity night at West Yorkshire police's driver training centre in Crofton Wakefield this Thursday night.

We will have exclusive use of the police skidpan and a couple of trainers on hand to give some skid control advice. It's a great evening, I've done one myself last year and it's very very rare that the police now open up the facility to the public as they limit these events to certain charities only a handful of times through the years.

The format may change a bit but when I was there last we had a free session with the trainers to get used to the car (Vauxhall Omega) and then a timed slalom course competition to end the night. It's only £20 per place and you can bring as many spectators as you like. All proceeds to Marie Curie Cancer Research.

Of course it's also a good excuse to bring your toys out to play. Drop me an email through my profile if you are interested. Please please only reserve a place if you know you can 100% attend as places are very limited and we are very lucky to have been given the facility and the use of the trainers time. It kicks off at 6.30pm Thursday the 5th.

I did this a few years ago. It's worth every penny and a great experience.

Sounds fun if you can use your own car, not so good if it's an old Omega hehe

Can anyone clarify?

when I did it we used their cars as they had bald tyres to make them skid.
They had an Omega and an Astra to give the experience of skidding in both a fwd and rwd.
I'll try get over for a cuppa this week Scott.

Its using their own car although when I did it they wanted me to put my VX220 on. I declined because I didn't want it covered in cooking oil!

Hehe...

That will help prevent corrosion, not so handy on an ally/fibreglass VX though biggrin

Would really like to use my own car on a surface with a higher grip level/dry. Never mind, should still be a good blast for those involved biggrin

Hi Jon & All,

Thanks for organising a great evening.

I enjoyed hooning around, my son Josh loved it and the tour of the polilce car too.

Thanks to the instructors for giving up thier evenings too.

I would love to do it again as soon as they get a RWD car.

regards
Alastair

Hi m8 great to meet you glad you & the lad enjoyed it smile

Last time I did it they had an Omega but apparently the engine failed on it. They are trying to get a RWD car but as you'd expect it's not straight forward!

I'll keep my ear to the ground and as soon as I hear they have one I'll request a night. It will probably be next year now though.
