...are E36 M3's going up in value?
I've been keeping an eye on them and the cheap ones (£3-4k) are going double-quick and more and more are popping up at around £5.5-6k. Now I'm not sure, but last year I thought they'd started to creep below the £3k mark.
Whaddaya think? Buy now or 'miss the boat'?

theyre a good buy thats for sure - eg a lot of car for the money.
and a lot of people are tipping them to increase in value soon.
the Evo is a better bet than a 3.0
thats not that the 3.0 is a bad car, just the 3.2 is a lot better and its perceived image of being problematic is fast disappearing.
especially now that a lot more is known about the vanos units eg noisy ones dont mean failure, most failures are down to either a solenoid or seals and when they do fail or the nosie gets too much then an uprated replacement can be had so cheaply.
however i have to admit im biased as I am selling mine atm

i would say if you do decide to buy one then check for good service history, in my mind thats the most important thing. Cosmetics can be sorted easily enough, but tired or unserviced running gear can lead to expensive issues.

my opinion is that they are creeping up in value again, im not sure what values to expect in say 10 years time. I can however say that even today, you dont see many on the roads. Maybe it where i live, but the last one i saw was around 2 months ago.
yeah i rarely see many anymore (apart from my own one LOL and another that i drive past where it lives regularly)you dont even see too many chavved up wannabe M3's either these days thank god
Personally I think the e36 is downright ugly whilst the e46 is a veritable work of art and plunging in price as there are so many around - look at the classifieds on PH. The e39 M5 again is lovely although being a V8 is going to cost a lot more in fuel.
I cannot see the e36 becoming much of a collectors car but who am I. Most will continue the downward spiral in price. The few left that are looked after by enthusiasts (an ever decreasing number) may maintain their premium but will not go up in the short term.

LOLi think your wrong
it has wonderful proportions, when given the M3 kit it doesnt (unlike many kits) look worse and in fact looks just as good but more agressive, the stance is superb and frankly it doesnt have a bad angle.
i took these pics of my car this morning - not even vaguely ugly

Just a shame about the downgraded materials used to produce the e46!

Very nice BH, very nice indeed.
How desperate are you to 'out' it? I know a man, see, has cash waiting... ;-)
id like it gone - but am i desperate ? no, not at allHow desperate are you to 'out' it? I know a man, see, has cash waiting... ;-)
its a good car at a good price.
it will sell - but atm all car sales are slow (as confirmed by threads on about half a dozen forums ive seen, and speaking to 4 dealers i know)
tbh its not unusual for summer time, happens every yr and should pick up towards the end of August as people get back from holidays etc.
i know the car im buying next and need a certain amount from selling the M3 to get it.
but theres no rush etc as the one i want is not (and wont be) advertised

I think that values of nice un-modified examples will creep up, especially the later Evos.
Interesting as I've been following a similar thread on M3Cutters forum; a point raised there is that the E36 M3 won't ever see the following or rocketing in values of the E30 M3 - I'm inclined to agree. This particular topic also references an article stating that the E36 M3 is the 'Worst M Car Ever', that I can't agree with.
As time goes on I think people with rediscover the E36 and what a tremendously capable car it is, that is when values will increase.
