Not sure if I'll get a better response here or in the gadget section.

With the 720p resolution of the iPhone it seems like it might be alright for in-car filming. However I'm not sure there are any mounts that might be suitable?

Does anybody know of a mount that can either go on the windscreen or even just attached to the headrest?

To maybe answer my own question:

Brodit seems to do a mount that clips to the head rest, now this is designed for rear passengers to watch movies, however could it be reversed to face the windscreen?

You'd have either use the front camera or simply turn the iPhone around in the mount but surely that would work?

If it helps, it's Brodit 610820 that i'm looking at.

The front camera is only vga, just so you know.

Interested to know how this pans out, good luck.

I've just stumbled across the Owle Bubo mount for iPhone - www.wantowle.com . No version for the iPhone 4 yet - although there's one on it's way - and I can't find it in the UK. Have emailed the company to get some more info on this.

So a Bubo and a decent sucker mount looks like it could be good for me (although a GoPro would probably work out cheaper...)

I may well answer my own question again but I've just had a eureka moment.

I bought an Xtand Go so I can mount my iPhone to the dash for sat nav duties. http://www.xtand.net/products/show/productid/12

It has a sucker mount that sticks securely to the back (or front!) of the iPhone and includes sticky backed square mounts that affix to the dash or window. The flexible arm then means you can move it into position.

I'm going to try using it with the sucker pad on the screen and then mount it to the windscreen. I'll let you know how I get on

how come the quality is so poor? Was this with the front facing camera?

If it's just been uploaded it will be poor until the process is completed.

Ah ok, I'll check back later for that.

Initial thoughts are it needs some damping for the bumps. can hear the case rattle, and sound is not that great.

It has only just been uploaded, I wasn't actually aware that the resolution gets better.

I chose that particular excerpt from the video because it had the most rattles as I wondered how I could improve that. It was mounted to the dashboard storage hatch (BMW 1 series) but I might try mounting on the windscreen instead. Obviously nothing I can do about the sound quality frown

I've found a good spot to mount on the windscreen now so I'll try it out soon and post another video
