I am planning to go to Ireland and buy a car. I will fly out and drive home.
The car is in Belfast, and I am in Oxford.
Any advice on anything, especially which route to take....

How much was the ferry back?
Cheers
i have a mate in belfast who travels to the UK regularly, and ive done a couple of trips over to him.
Stranrear has a faster crossing but its a long drive up, and a slow last hour on the road as its a crappy B road to the docks
Liverpool had a long crossing, but a shorter drive UK side, both are quite expensive crossings
ive flying out again this weekend from Brum, £50 return with BMI Baby

Driving from N.I to dublin is easy, only takes a couple of hours at the very most, you can either go dublin port (pain to get to in rush hour) or dun laoghire which is further south.
Whatever you do go senna and not irish ferries, cost about a £100 in advance I think, booking on the day will cost you about 140.....Ive done it loads of times and missed the ferry a few times and paid on the day.
Its no probs, buy a cheap sat nav if I was you and it will take you straight there, drving round Ireland is a sinch, but rush hour traffic is a pain. If you go down the M50 you'll have to pay the toll, (you cant pay on the road you'll have to pay in a petrol station before or after you go through).
All in all its a doddle, fly to belfast one way (around £100), drive back to Dublin jump on the ferry.
Make sure you get a fast ferry and check the weather before you go as if it gets bad they will close the ferry.

Swings and roundabouts, depends on where you want to do the driving - to Holyhead, Dublin, Belfast (1.9 euros essential for toll on M1) plus a few for port tunnel when in dublin (worth it) is good if you'd want to Vmax on way back....(take care for unmarked garda).
Or up the M6 and across to Stranraer - I've done both several times. I guess the latter is easiest of you wish to stay within one currency / jurisdiction.
Agree on getting Stena line - book yourselves the stena plus as well. bit more comfy and refreshments on tap as you please.
