Novice Trackday with MSV or a 'normal' trackday
Discussion
Just seeking some advice
I have driven on a track (Brands) as part of a single seater experience day
However am now planning to do some car trackdays.
Would you recommend doing the Club MSV Novice Day or just go straight into a straight forward trackday and build up experience with time on the track

Depends how confident you are, the normal days that MSV run can be a bit intimidating for a novice as they have a fair few race cars on trailers turn up. I would say do a couple of MSV novice days or a couple of airfield days with MSE.

Pardon my ignorance but who are 'MSE'My son and I are booked to attend two MSV track days this month - a novice day at Snetterton followed by an open pit lane day a couple of weeks later.
I'm particularly keen to let my son get used to the car at higher speeds (and having cars around him at even higher speeds!) and I've also included an instructor session for each of us at that first session.
You don't get a huge amount of time on track at a novice day - seven x 20 minute sessions over the whole day IIRC - but I think the instructor feedback and having time between sessions to reflect and discuss driving styles will be handy.
I also picked Snetterton for our 'induction' as it's a less complicated circuit than our other nearest, Brands Hatch.

Matty.
Just recently done a novice day with MSV at Bedford, highly, highly recommended.
I had also done a single seater experience at Brands a couple of years ago, the difference between the two is massive. You will get so much out of the novice day. Book the tuition though, it's invaluable.

My first track day was a at a 'standard' BaT day at Cadwell Park in my Corsa
Not intimidating in the slightest, despite the speed differential to other cars. Just kept an eye in the mirrors, and let the Caterhams past when appropriate.
Only thing with a novice day: you're surrounded by other novices (obviously) with little track day experience. More likely to make mistakes, or do something unexpected.

But there are less cars on the track at any one time too, which helps space things out a bit.
Apologies for the long post.
Yesterday did my 2nd Novice day with MSV at Cadwell & having watched the open pitlane track eveving afterwards was glad I went for another novice day.
As another posted stated, folks turn up at open pitlane's with race prepped cars, last night their was a racing golf v rapid car & v agressive driver & two cars from the stock hatch series.
I had never been on a track before as driver or passenger & only have a "warm" hatch which is my main car so ideal for me. Learn the circuit with some instruction & build up pace without having to constantly look in your mirrors & worry you are holding someone up which spoils their fun & yours. Also as they are sessioned usually around 20 mins it give you & the car a chance to recover
Broad mix of cars & abilities on the 2 I've done including some "experienced" novices in track prepped cars, all in all really enjoyable.
Instruction really pays off IMO.
Hope that helps?

I took my missus, a friend and his girlfriend to an MSV Brands taster novice session recently, and the main difference was that the speeds were slower, no race cars or track day only cars seemed to appear, so in general better for a first timer...
but..
because most are out on track for the first time, the track discipline seemed a bit lacking. It was pointed out by my wife it was alot to take in at once for someone with no track experience or any motorsports interest like her. The overtaking rules, flags, pit lane etiquette, apexes, brake points, turn in points etc all was a bit too much to absorb in one go.. and from what I witnessed, it seemed by the overtaking on bends, ignoring flags etc.. others were the same.

Another option is the MSV road car only track days theyve just started doing. Basically its sessioned by ability but for road cars only to keep the racers at bay.

i started off with a couple of novice days at Snetterton and thought it was a good insight and not intimidating, think the instructor assistance would have been usefull but ive only got one seat fitted!! dont remember how the sessions worked though if have two drivers wether you share the 7 or can go accross two sessions. Although snetterton is a basic looking track, it does (with me anyway) encourage a bit of red mist sometimes and some of the corners while basic are fast which can be interesting in damp conditions and lead to some high speed offs onto wet slippery grass. I'm particularly keen to let my son get used to the car at higher speeds (and having cars around him at even higher speeds!) and I've also included an instructor session for each of us at that first session.
