The latest issue of Edge Magazine has unleashed the first solid details for Colin McRae: DiRT 3.
According to the magazine (via Eurogamer), the game will feature "snow and ice, dynamic weather, YouTube uploads, fierce rides and epic tracks, splitscreen support, party modes, an open-world playground and more real-life sponsors and stars than ever".
The career will have you start off racing in cars from the '90s, but the game will feature a huge roster of vehicles from super buggies and RAID trucks to classics like the Morris Cooper and modern beasts we all recognise today. And each will be more detailed that in the previous games.
Career is said to be more focused on racing as a team, and has you playing as a "privateer". DiRT 3 also abandons the festival theme of DiRT 2 (and those annoyingly long-winded menu screens), promising a "more stylised" front-end. All we want is fast and functional, Codemasters.
As you'd expect, races will take to venue around the world, with Norway, Aspen, Monte Carlo and Africa confirmed to play host to some of the 100 courses in the game.
The preview also drops details on what sounds like the new stunt mode you can glimpse at the end of yesterday's debut trailer, saying the game will give you a score based on how close your car gets to obstacles. Party modes "Transporter, Goldrush, Outbreak and Cat 'n' Mouse" are also included.
Full YouTube integration means you can then clip together a highlights reel of your sick skills and upload it directly to the internet, all in-game.
Sounds like more of a rally game this time, loved the first two and can't wait for this one. Here's the first trailer:

Literally can't wait for this, along with F1 2010 it should see me through to around the beginning of 2012 with not needing anything else!
Why - they've always been crap. Pretty but crap. Despite numerous attempts at driving games codemasters have singularly proved that they are utterly unable to deliver decent car physics.my problem is not the game engine, ive always found that to be rather good compared to most games,
but codemasters distinct lack of GAME, they put in the bare minimum to anything they have ever made.
dirt 2 was a s==t game, more ken block fanboy crap, x games pish, liverlies?????, tiniest bit of rallying.
the colin mcrae name should of beeen dropped a long time ago, i would still play colin mcrae 2 on the ps2 over any of this dirt crap,
thats why im worried about f1 2010, as ive always wanted a good f1 game to play, but with codemasters im not sure

The last Rally game I played which had what I consider to be a decent approximation of a low grip physics engine was the Richard Burns game.
Still if it keeps bringing in cash to CM's family then who am I to criticise. Just a shame that someone known for their flamboyant driving style is honoured by such a mediocre driving game.

Going OT for a moment, looks like Milestone are working on a WRC title too...loved Evolution studios handling of the License on the PS2, hopefully this is a useful addition for 2010.

Looking at the first vid it doesn't look hopeful. Turn in resulting in a nice progressive over-steer and then just sitting there in a perfect drift. Hopefully that was just an arcade mode.Blurb

Disagree completely, i'm a simulation fan but really enjoy the Codemasters games. I agree though, they use the Mcrae name when the game has little or nothing to do with him.
you do know mcrae regularly participated in X games, so it does reallyGassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
