My colleague has a Peugeot 206 HDi, anyway to cut a long story short she's had a lot of bad luck with this car. What started as a simple airbag fault has turned into a bit of a mess.

Soon after buying the car she noticed an airbag warning light, she took it back to the dealer to be "fixed", but all the dealer did was remove the dash and break the airbag warning light so it stopped displaying the warning light.

My colleague discovered this after taking it to another garage as they she a 'feeling' it hadn't been fixed properly, this was mainly due to there apparently being a second airbag warning light on the centre console, which was still lit. The second garage comfirmed that it hadn't been fixed and that she would need a new speedo cluster and airbag.

She has now taken it in to be repaired and has been told that to fit a new speedo cluster, airbag and "all the wiring to go with it" is going to cost her £600-£700.

I think this sounds a bit excessive for the work she says is being done. Does anybody have any idea how much it should cost?

Thanks,

Snails

Surely the onus is on the original garage to actually complete the work they'd been paid to do?

I don't think it'd need a new everything unless they threw a grenade in the back.

Unless maybe the problem was something severe in the first place, the 600-700 fix, and they rang your friend "we can fix it a couple of ways, one is expensive, and will take 2 weeks, or the other will be £5 and be ready this evening"

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the dealer that she purchased the car from has since gone out of business. The 'dealer' was more of a used car salesman than an actual dealer.

Well she's stuffed then. Sounds very expensive to me.

Airbag modules and speedo clusters are famously expensive things to buy if your current one has broken.

Whether they do need changing or not, couldn't speculate.
