Mont St Michel, aquarium at St Malo, Dinan and Dinard are also very nice.

St Malo generally is lovely, but as said the aquarium is ace. If you're driving the Normandy beaches are worth the trip, particularly Arromanches as the scale of the Mulberry harbour has to be seen to be believed.

Carnac on the south coast is nice too, and has a huge field of menhirs nearby.

Mont St Michel is great but a bit of a tourist lodestone, can get very busy, especially if you want to go into the Abbey.

Thanks - What's it like driving around the area? Having been to more rural French areas the roads can be tricky and from what looks like an hours drive on a map can be a good 2 down a thin farm track.

IME away from change-over day google map's estimates are pretty good because the traffic levels in France are so much lower than the UK.

According to google maps this journey is just over two and half hours.

It was easily do-able in that time.

And if you're lucky, there's sometimes stuff belting around the track too...

Have a look at the area around Erquy, Pleneuf Val Andre or Sables d'Or les Pins for some dramatic coastline and good beaches. Not sure about individual campsites but on a couple of ventures up that way there appeared to be plenty.
