Looks like the start of a nasty trend. Passive devices only I'd say in the future, chaps. It seems that if you get noticed because your jammer saves you from a ticket that they'll come looking for you anyway. Vindictive? I'd say so...
So GATSOs/Truvelos are an irrelevant threat if you have GPS warning and some decent observation skills - but defences against the Scamera vans get to be looking harder and harder to do whilst not risking the full force of the law coming down on you...

The FULL Story...
MOTORISTS USING SPEED JAMMERS

MOTORISTS in Cumbria are cheating police by installing electronic jamming devices in their cars in a bid to thwart speed traps.
The devices can be easily bought on the internet, but Cumbria police are warning motorists that using a speed camera jammer could land them in court.
Carlisle motorist Nigel Robert James Potter, 21, of Crosshill Drive, became one of the first in the county to be on the wrong side of the law when he was caught by police on London Road in Carlisle last year.
At Eden Magistrates’ Court Potter admitted obstructing a constable by fitting a jamming device to his car which prevented police recording his speed.
Suspicions about Mr Potter first came to light in June last year when PC Ivison used a safety camera to check the speed of a Vauxhall Carleton on Linstock Bridge over the M6 motorway.
Prosecutor Mike Fisher said that for seven seconds the officer’s laser equipment gave an error message but no speed reading.
PC Ivison made inquiries and was told that the message would only appear if a laser jamming device was being used.
In September another police officer, PC Cox, was operating a safety camera on London Road when the same error message came on as he tried to get a speed reading for a Vauxhall Carleton, said Mr Fisher.
The car was traced to Potter and was seized and examined. A USA-made jamming device was found, termed a “diffuser” and costing £349.
In mitigation, Gail Heard said Potter, who had no previous convictions, had bought the device without instructions for £10 from a friend and had thought it was a radar detector, which would have been legal.
A speed check on a wagon travelling close behind Potter indicated he had not been speeding.
Potter had to pay £138 for the recovery wagon used by the police to take away his car and had been without the car for a month.
Eden magistrates gave Potter a six-month conditional discharge and ordered the forfeit and destruction of the jammer.
A police spokesman said: “We advise motorists not use jamming devices because the police will eventually catch them and prosecute them.”

Aren't police supposed to be using the Laser gun to corroborate their suspicion that a car is speeding?
Still, the destruction of the device & a puny fine is far better than a possible ban/loss of job etc for speeding....(yes I know he wasn't speeding at this time, but I bet he does

It must be asked how these people were using them.
If you go for a speed trap and leave it on so they cant get a reading, you are going to get caught! Thats how the guy in Wales got done a while ago. Was blatting through speed traps jamming all the way.
The instant you know you are being targetted, slow to to correct limit, turn jammer off. Problem solved. They get a reading, you carry on, turn jammer on again.

Is the duty of care in these instances with the individual to prove they weren't using one (perverting the cause of justice, interfering with Police officers duty, etc), or with the police to prove you were using one? Just curious.
It's to do with motoring, therefore you are guilty unless you can prove your innocence

Sorry to hijack the thread but when are we gonna wake up to the fact we now no longer live in a civilised society?
Any government worth its salt lets ordinary folk like us go about our business.
By doing 40mph in a 30mhp zone, am i causing a breakdown of society? I bloody hope no-one thinks that!
By whacking old ladies on the head and running off with their handbags am i causing a breakdown? I should think i was.
So correct me if i'm wrong but does it seem a tinsey-winsey bit strange that the efforts of our once great and noble police service are so inexorably commited to persecuting us out of our freedom as drivers?
Untill we realise that we now live in close approximation of Nazi Germany, sadly now the Gestapo wear the uniforn of her majesty police force we are but lambs to the slaughter, we do this to ourselfs.
So im my opinion use a laser jammer, get flip-plates, burn gatso and truvelos to the ground. Unless we turn the tide now it'll all be over and we will have no freedom left but to choose to exist.
We, my friends have fallen from grace!
Rant over, vitriol spent

Except it won't be Her Majesty's Police force for much longer if this bunch of ccuntss stay in power for much longer. No longer the Crown Prosecution Service and you get bet your life it won't be Her Majesty's Customs and Excise when those two magnificent organisations get merged. New Labour = Old Stalinism. Backdoor Republicans to a man.

The politics seems to be flung far and wide here. The consensus is clearly that we hate the trend and we all seem to pretty much agree we want criminals caught not minor motoring infringements persecuted. I agree with both of the above in sentiment but suspect Blair is far more sinister than heir Flick and I am a out and out front door republican I want citizenship not subjugation.

Democracy in Britain no longer appears to work. Things which affect our lives are now decided for us, regardless of what we may think.
The arrogance of those in power is astounding. how can thay look us in the eyes and tell us this is all for the best, why do we let them patronize us like this. Have we no dignity?
Well i look at this way. If you kick a dog too many times he'll turn round and bite you. The British public can bite, we're just not angry enough......yet.

The only reason the guy was found guilty is because that was his plea!
If he'd gone 'not guilty', I reckon he would have gotten away with it. Last bloke to plead not guilty after being pulled up for using a jammer had his case quitly dropped by the CPS...

Perhaps the title: "The Public Police Service" is what B'liar and Blunderkit are aiming for ... on the basis that they want Joe Public policed (aka dragooned) into doing their bidding - Streaky
Already happened in Northern Ireland - instead of the good old Royal Ulster Constabulary we now have PSNI - the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
Fer Chrissake's don't vote Labour next time round...vote anyone else, just not Labour...
RichB said:But going off the story that is exactly what happened. DT was not able to get a reading for several seconds and then could.
As I said, I believe the LRC 10 is sufficiently smart not to allow Dick Turpin to get a fix on you for 7 seconds. If you don't slow down after the warning that's your problem. R...
I also think that if he had fought it, instead of just pleading guilty, he would have had a chance of it never reaching court. The guy needs to read Pistonheads
