Keeping 2 NCD allowances current

OK, perhaps not to the spirit of the rules, but wondering if this is to the letter

Over the past few years have run 2 cars, so have built up 2 good NCD allowances

About 9 months ago sold one of the cars, and still may not replace for a little while (possibly outside of the 2 years that most insurers recognise unused NCD for)

Now I am thinking the following: when my current policy is up for renewal I use the currently 'unused' NCD to get a discount on that new policy (assume I have to switch providers but generally do) and request a letter confirming the NCD of the old policy from my current insurers to give me another 2 years to use it...

Is that likely to cause a problem.. as per my first line think it's to the letter of the rules, if not quite the spirit...

(That said may all be in vain as I'm beginning to crack on getting another car!)

Swapping the NCD at renewal works fine - I use to work for a broker and we had several clients that did this to keep both sets of NCD 'live'.
