Need some help with a works vehicle, anyone know about audio?

In my works vehicle there is a VDO radio and pair of speakers. Now one of these speakers doesnt seem to have a cable running to it from the back of the radio, and the other speaker wants replacing anyway. Also it has no aerial, but the aerial base into which an aerial screws is connected.

I need a new set of speakers, to sort out the lack of wiring, and a new aerial. Whats the best way of doing this? Will I need some of those radio clip things, take it out and replace the wires. What wires will I need, and what speakers? Also I need a new aerial, where can I get something like that from? Want it to be as cheap as possible, because come the end of summer i'll be leaving anyway and wont be taking the thing apart to have my bits back!

I'll get slaughtered for saying this but why not buy the speakers and aeriel from somewhere like halfords who will fit them for you? Saves the trouble of doing it yourself and i guess the fitting would carry some sort of guarantee?

3 reasons;

Firstly I doubt they would be prepared to fit them to a tractor.
Secondly im not prepared to drive the 12 miles to the nearest Halfords in a tractor!
And finally I can easily do the job when I know what im supposed to be doing/buying.

The actual fitting and installing wont be too hard, its knowing what bits will work that I dont get.

Speaker cable, appropriate connectors for new speakers, and for the head unit.

Radio removal keys, wire cutter/crimper, old metal coat hanger for routing new wires, stick tape.

Remove old head unit and speaker surrounds and speakers.
Route wire from head unit to speakers, using the coat hanger if any bends or trim to get round.
Crimp new connectors on if needed.
Plug speakers and stereo in.
Reinstall trim and stereo.

Ive found my radio on the site.

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-vdo-cr16...

Are the speaker cables standard? It says standard fitting, so I presume so?

Cheers guys.

What brand of tractor is it? If the radio is mounted in a box, like Case MX's and earlier 6000 series Deere's, just unscrew the box from the headlining to access the radio. That way you won't need the release keys that nobody will lend you. The head units normally have DIN sockets now, so you just slide the new radio in and plug the plug in and off you go.

My colleague changed his to a DAB head unit in his 7480 and had to go in through the top of the cab, this was possible on the 40 series NH/Fords too.

Speakers are easy to change, even I can do that. Just go to Halfrauds and get a pair the right size and screw 'em in.

You'll need Autoleads PC5-83 keys to remove the old one.

I believe 'ISO' is the standard.

MF 6290. The radio is in the headlining with the aircon controls, so doubt I can drop the whole lot down. I did think about it. Access for running wires isnt too bad, you can go in through the top in the roof hatch, access behind is more difficult.

So then, once I have removed the radio how do I replace the single speaker cable if all the fittings are DIN? Or is the live feed and aerial different and the DIN socket just does the speakers? No doubt all will become clear when I rip it apart, but thats also when I'll find out that I dont have a bit required and we'll be off combining without radio or aircon. Which would be a big no-no!

Sorry for so many questions, but I need the bits before tackling the job....

the connectors look the same but power one will only have 4-5 connectors/wires tops. Tractor maybe has 3?

Perm live
Ign Live
Earth

Other block will be for speakers, I'd guess if 2 speakers are present, the wiring will be there, but could be damaged somewhere on the route? Colours here will be matched, or should be anyway, with one of the two of each colour striped to indicate -/+

I think, but been a few years since i worked in audio.

ISO Connectors Pinout:

You might not have *all* of the connectors, though... all you *need* are switched and permanent live and then a ground, in addition to all the speakers.

I have sound! Well..... of sorts.

Speakers went in fine, we botched the wiring but it works well and thats the main thing. Radio was removed with a 4 bits of brazing rod which work just as well as proper pins. Anyway, next problem is the aerial. Its knacked. Properly knacked. Now I have a problem in that the connection currently on the aerial is a female connection, with the male connection in the back of the radio, and yet every aerial ive come across, and everyone Ive spoken too only supplies male ends on the aerials, so I need a sort of female to female adapter - which nobody seems to make!

Any ideas? Anyone know what im on about?!

Would either of you kindly link them? I was in both Maplin and Halfrauds earlier tonight and neither shop knew of anything which would help, or adapt...

Sorry for so many questions, im not useless with DIY - honestly!!
