I was sat in traffic earlier, and noticed a load of VAG 1.9 tdi's round about me and wondered what is the most common engine on sale in differing models today.... sad I know....

My thoughts were:

VAG 2.0 Tdi - Golf, Jetta, Touran, Passat, Eos, A3, A4, A6, TT, Leon, Altera, Exeo + others ?

Ford/PSA 1.6 diesel - Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, C-Max, DS3, C4, C5, Picasso, 207, 308, 407, 3008, Mini, S40 + others ?

Any other ones ? Fiat sourced 1.9 diesel - is that the one in Vauxhalls too ?

Are we talking different types of car, or the ultimate quantity of cars?

Fiat 1.3 JTD I reckon. Fitted in:

Alfa MiTo
Fiat 500
Fiat Punto
Fiat Panda
Ford Ka
Vauxhall Corsa
Vaxuhall Astra
Vauxhall Agila
Vauxhall Meriva
Suzuki Swift

And some other ones. That's a hell of a lot of mass market cars.

As the two best selling vehicles in the US are the Camry and the F150 I'd say it would be a 3.5 V6 Toyota or a 5.4 Triton V8. . . . . .

The Fiat Fire engine has been used in all sorts too. Depends how you class an engine. THey are all based on the same design but have different capacities. From 999cc to 1400cc. both 8v and 16v. From probably as early as 1985 and still being used today.

Yes, really. It's a Mitsubishi only version of the PD lump, differs in the bell housing and manifolds, but is otherwise just a plain old PD. Engine code is BWC from memory.

I believed you, I just didn`t realise that Mitsubishi had an engine deal with VAG. Are the diesels in Shoguns etc a Mitsubishi unit or are they outsourced as well?
