Waiting to collect Miss F this evening I browsed the price list.

Adult Ticket £6.90
After 5pm? £1.00
3D Film? £2.10
3D Goggles? £0.80

Which takes a £6.90 ticket to £10.80. Nice mark-up if you can get it.

How much more does a 3D film cost to make anyway?

You're complaining?

That's cheap for a cinema!

Bear in mind, that ticket gives you the best part of two hours entertainment; how much would a ticket for a decent band cost?
What about two hours in the pub?
Or an "exotic" dancer...?

But, if you spent £30 on tequilla, then went to a normal film, it kind of looks like it is in 3d......

I still think of a trip to the cinema being around £5 per person plus as much pick & mix as you can eat before chucking.

For a tenner, I can buy the DVD and watch it in my own home, with a glass of beer, without a load of yokels munching popcorn all around me.

Y'see, I knew this would happen. Normal PH response. rolleyes

Which part of my post says it's a complaint about price? I was highlighting Ryanairesque pricing techniques. A near 40% mark-up when you're almost at the point of no return.

Edit: Not the sort of point of no return TVRMoneypit's contemplating.

I remember the days when I was still in school where I could take a tenner with me and get the bus to an from the cinema along with the ticket, a drink, a bucket of popcorn and still have enough change left to buy Max Power on the way back.

And i'm only 21!

However for cheap tickets he is great.

If I can travel abroad for less than the train fare to the airport I consider that a success and cheap. For a short hop it is just like a bus, except not as crammed.

As for the prices, I don't enjoy 3D films so don't see them. For those saying the prices are cheap, I think the rest of you are being mugged. £25 for a ticket nuts I am shocked.

Didn't easyCinema exist, I seem to remember someone telling me on a simialr thread once? But film companies wouldn't let them have new films and so they didn't last.

Anyway, I think all cinemas operate a pricing policy like this - it's just that it's not shown as such. In my local cinemas it's more expensive after 6pm, more expensive for a 3D film, and you have to buy your goggles the first time you go, it's just that they don't do that "£1 more" price structure, they simply say; 2D: £8. 3D: £10 (or whatever). Subtle difference, but key I think.

I too have noticed that cinemas are getting expensive - you take you're girlfriend and your easily £20 lighter before popcorn, drinks etc. Odeons do "two for tuesdays" and there's "orange wednesdays". Much much more sensible way of going - and, if you can do it, before 6pm and go for dinner after not before.

I do. Going in the afternoon is like having a huge telly all to yourself.

Cineworld in sheffield wanted nearly 8 quid each to go and see a normal 2d film, 3d films are extortionate there, looked at going to see avatar with mrs slopes but it was going to be nearly £14 each

last time I went to the cinema, my biggest gripe (apart from the stupid prices for popcorn etc) was sitting for I 25 minutes watching adverts and reminding me that I should not buy pirate movies...

Woman and her three kids in front of me in the queue for tickets for Toy Story 3 3D at the weekend was moaning about paying nearly £50 for four tickets, her big complaint was the £1 per pair of glasses she had paid, not the extra £10/£15 she'd spent on the slightly better seats. We spent £30 (including £4 on glasses) to see the same film for the four of us. Fools and their money.

I'll only go to the cinema to watch something really good these days, far too pricey as I can usually purchase the blu-ray with (legal) download and DVD for less than half the price.
