I understand that Pistonheads is now a commercial venture and therefore advertising is necessary, but does it need to shout at me about milkybars at 2am? What about those users who browse whilst at work? Surely you realise you will be dropping many of your avid readers in the st?

And are pistonheads forum members really the right demographic for a childrens chocolate bar?

I have the sound turned off ... seems to solve this particular problem.

PH is free and if a few ads floating around means it stays like that then I'll cope.

I'm not sure what the answer is then - Ad Blockers usually work (certainly the Firefox one does a good job) but I don't like using them since it seems wrong to want people to provide a whole bunch of service and not get paid for it. Unless a site is subscription then I expect to see Ads.

Ads that make a noise are indeed a step too far if you can't turn the sound off and I guess I'd move away from such sites if it was causing me an issue.

Ideally PH would drop these ads .... but are you prepared to leave the site if they don't?

Having had this blast out in front of a couple of people I'd really rather it hadn't I'm out of here for a few hours. Need to do some work anyway

Please don't start running ads with sound like this! I really don't want to have to run an ad blocker, I realise that the ads are part of what pays for this place, but if we start getting talking or singing ads it is the only option I will have if I still want to come on here.

Turning off the sound is not an option when you're running digital dictation...

This. I'm quite happy to have ads to keep the forums free, but ads with sound is a step to far. This isn't the first time, people complain, it goes, and then a few weeks later another one appears. If it keeps happening I'm just going to install Adblock.

I appreciate the freeness of the site and have no problems with adverts, but when I am trying to have a crafty surf with only me the CEO and the CTO in the office and I start getting stupid ads like that its going to have one of a number of outcomes:

1. Website is blocked at work (I can't surf therefore less page clicks/ revenue)
2. I don't view during work time (see 1)
3. Ad blocker, I still surf but you don't get the revenue.

Its not like its the first time its happened and I am sure that i am not the only one that has been caught out like this....
