Does anyone else have problems with the paparazzi whilst driving around in their 'vettes?

I've only had my Z06 back from being SVA tested and registered for two days, but already I'm thinking about having a spare pair of sunglasses in the car for whenever I go out for a drive!

I've had people taking pictures (from other cars!), crowds gathering around when I park her, people pointing/waving etc. I even had a guy on a bicycle nearly fall off as he passed me in a jam because he was trying to read the Z06 badge.

Does this happen to everyone else, or is it just me?

The flip side is that I've had no problems being 'let out' into traffic so far, which unfortunately means I've not had any reason to use the horn as yet!!!

Get used to it!

I had my pic taken by mobile phone only yesterday.

The scariest time was the guy stood up in the passenger seat of a caterham on the Mulsanne straight last year at about 60 mph on the Friday morning before Le Mans taking a video of my car!

Also got a shock when I saw a flash from a car next to me on the motorway when the passenger took my picture at night. I thought it was a speed camera.

Welcome to the very exclusive UK Z06 owners club!

What colour and year is it? Any mods fitted?

She's a silver 2002 (first reg 07/02). I actually had a lot of difficulty finding a silver one in Texas. I looked for weeks (very unusual in the 'I wan't it now' country), then I found 2 at one dealership! I was on the verge of buying out of state and driving her back.

No mods as yet, and to be honest, none planned at present. I don't race her (at least not on tracks) so unless I find the need to tweak the handling for UK roads I plan to keep her as stock + SVA modifications.

You never know, though. If I ever get any weekends free I *might* catch the racing bug!

Do you fancy coming to The Fairmile pub tomorrow night near Esher? It is the Surrey Corvette owners meeting from about 7:30 tomorrow night and it would be good to see another Z06!

Esher is just off the A3 and about 2 miles inside the M25.

Let me know if you want details.

Thanks for the invite, but with my current schedule I don't think I'll be getting out and about too much in the near future... even ordered a cover for the car the other day as I don't think she's going to get much use over the next few months :-(

Still, it'll help to keep the mileage down!!!

If you think you get a lot of looks driving in England, wait until you drive it in France. I have some video (which I must get around to uploading to my web site) of our last trip to France. Filmed from over the road to where we parked the locals reactions to the cars was quite entertaining!!!

That's the great thing about C5, all round it might not outperform an M3 but it's a real head turner and there isn't a 1.6 stripped out version driven by Clive in accounts! I've never had more people come up and talk about a car - it doesn't carry the negative image of some flash cars. Enjoy!

Yeah, the fact that the M3 has lower models going down to econoboxes is off-putting for some. But still, the owners argue with reason the M3 and M3 CSL are good cars. And 'Vettes don't carry a negative image like BMWs (well there seems to be a lot of bashing towards BMW drivers and their drivecraft).

They're all taking pictures so they can put it on ebay as a new scam. He he.
